Royals break even
in fastball league
The Exeter Royals gained
an even split in two
Southwestern fastball league
games this week to run their
season record to four wins
and three defeats.
Thursday night on their
home field the Royals drop-
ped a close 6-5 decision to
West Corners and Sunday
also at home they evened
their week's record with a 3-1
victory over Lieury.
The Royals will be in action
on three occasions this week.
They travel to Lieury Thurs-
day and Ilderton Friday and
will be at home at Exeter
Community Park Sunday
night to take on Bryanston.
Thursday night West Cor-
ners came to town and edged
the Royals 6-5. The Royals
opened up a 2-0 lead in the
first inning as Dan Heywood
singled Gary Skinner doubled
and both scored as Paul
McKnight double.
They went up 3-0 in the se-
cond inning as Kevin Thoret
walked and came in to score
on Rob Snell$ single.
West Corners tied it in the
third as Dan Lagerwarf singl-
ed, Ron Lockhart walked and
Jack Berg hit a three run
homer.
They went up 5-3 in the
fourth as Rob. Thoman and
Dave Walker scored. They
added one more in the fifth as
Murray Blacherd scored. The
Royals notched their final two
runs in the fifth as Gary Skin-
ner homered, Paul McKnight
doubled and scored on Phil
Turner's sacrifice fly.
The Royals had eight hits
off Rob Thoman who picked
up the win. Kevin Thoret took
the loss for the Royals in his
initial start with the team. He
went three and a third innings
giving up five runs on five hits
while striking out two batters.
Brad Marsden went an in-
ning and a third giving up a
run on one hit while Brian.
.Hodgins went the balance of
the way.
Sunday night the Exeter
Royals edged Lieury 3-1.
Lieury opened the scoring in
the first inning as Kim
Pickering walked and scored
as Lloyd Mothers' tripled.
The Royals tied the game in
the bottom of the first on Gary
Skinner's sacrifice fly.
They scored the winning
and insurance runs in the bot-
tom of the fifth as Barry
Baynham tripled, Rob Snell
doubled and scored on a dou-
ble steal.
Dan Heywood pitched a
strong game for the Royals
allowing only one hit while
striking out eight batters.
Glenn Thompson took the
loss allowing three hits and
striking out five.

first victory
The Exeter Drillers won
their first soccer game after
three losses. The young Ex-
eter team, mostly high school
toys, fought their way to a 3-2
win over a young team from
Taxandria.
Wayne Smith opened the
score in the first five minutes
of play. Taxandria came right
back to tie the score 1-1.
Both teams had luts of shots
on the goals but neither team
could score any more goals in
the first half.
After Andrew Winters
scored in the second half the
Drillers settled down to play
a very good passing game.
Brian Topp scored the third
goal on a penalty shot. Taxan-
dria came back strong and
managed to get past the
Drillers defence and score
their second goal.
Lady golfers•
Prize winners at the week-
ly outing of the Ironwood
ladies golf club were. Helen
Burton with the fewest putts,
Ilazel Beaver, low on hale six,
Ann Lorento as the most
honest golfer and Jeannette
Lippert with hidden score.

Bantams lose
to Seaforth
Exeter Big "0" Bantams
came up on the short end of a
5-2 decision in Seaforth Sun-
day afternoon.
Sean Whiteford scored on
an error in the first innning
and Bryan Quinn crossed the
plate in the second.
Seaforth tied the game in -
the second and added another
in the third to take the lead.
Dave Akey allowed Exeter
only four scattered hits.
Bryan Quinn had two
singles, Darryl McCann hit
for a double and Tim Moore
came up with a single.
Dave Russell started on the
mound for Exeter and was
relieved by Sean Whiteford in
the fourth.
Seaforth picked up one run
in the fifth and one in the sixth
to complete the scoring.
Russell gave up four hits
and one walk while fanning
three.
Whiteford allowed four hits,
walked two and struck out
six. Scott Miller finished off m
the sixth walking one and fan-
ning two.
Penguins get
silver medals
The Edgewood Penguins
won 'silver medals in a
,weekend London ladies
fastball tournament.
The Edgewood girls tied
Mount Brydges 2-2, defeated
Riverside 17-2 and Port Credit
7.3 before bowing to Port Col-
borne in the final.

years travelling distance for
competitive swimming has
decreased greatly as we
won't b% travelling any far-
ther than 30 miles for meets.
Four meets will be held on
Saturday mornings
throughout the summer and
the league is geared to fun
and participation for all. Cost
to join swim team is $12.00 per
youngster.
Advance tickets are still on
sale at the South Huron Rec
Centre for $3.00 per perslon for
the Martins anal Downs Cir-
cus set for Friday July 1. Two
shows will be held at 6:00 and
8:15 p.m. at the rec centre
