New owner for
hardware store
Louis Schilbe is the new
proprietor of the hardware
store on Zurich's main street.
The transfer of ownership
became official on Monday,
May 30.. Schilbe, who
operated an antique shoji a
number of years ago in the
village. plans to retain as
much of the hardware sture's
unique atmosphere as possi-
ble. The stained glass win-
dows, porcelain drawer
knobs, walnut showcases and
pine counters will stay.
Former owner Gib Stade,
who had been in the business
since 1946, is heading to the
heart of the Okanogan Valley
in B.C. as soon as he sells his
house. Three of his four
children live on the west
coast.
After 30 years as a
customer of (he store, the
move to the other side of the
counter was an easy transi-
tion for Schilbe. Ile promises
to continue to provide glass
cutting, pipe threading, and
the "personal. friendly ser-
vice" of his predecessor.

The weekend was certainly
not ideal for the residents to
enjoy the outdoors. Hopefully
the weather will dry up and
the sun will have a chance to
shine.
Residents enjoyed their
video program on Monday
evening.
Some of the residents en-
joyed a bus ride on Monday
afternoon along the lake and
through the Goderich arca.

Mrs. Maurine Webb have
returned from area hospitals.
The sympathy of residents
and staff is extended to the
family of the late Miss Olive
O'Brien.
On Thursday evening, the
ladies of Bayfield Anglican
Church sponsored the Mav

birthday party. Residents
having birthdays during the
month were Miss Emma
Bassow, Mrs. Mary Mcl.ay
and Mr. Harold (Tiny) Thiel.
The junior Sunday School
children of the church pleas-
ed the residents with their
part in the program. Gifts
were presented to the
residents having birthdays,
courtesy of the Ladies Aux-
iliary of the lfome. Following
the program, the residents
enjoyed birthday cake and
coffee.
Bingo was played on Friday
evening, followed by
refreshments.
The Sunday evening chapel
service was conducted by Mr.
and Mrs. Eric Luther of
llensall.

Cathy Fawcett of Sherwood
Park, Alberta and son, Kent
spent last week visiting with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Grainger and family
in the area.
Last Sunday a family
gathering and dinner was
held at the home of Russell
and Elizabeth Grainger after
the baptism of little Bradly
James Grainger (son of
Steven and Karen) on May -22
at St. Peter's Catholic Church
by Fr. Bensette.
Pat and Phoebe Tiede of
London spent the weekend at
their trailer parked near the
lake north of St. Joseph's.
Sympathy is extended to
the family of the late Les
Usherwood of Toronto who
has a cottage actoss from St.
Peter's Church and was
known to many cottagers and
year-round residents in the
area.
Tony and Marie Denomme
Jr., RR 2 Zurich, spent last
week in Fort McMurray,
Alberta and attended the wed-
ding of their son Mike who
was married on May 21 to
Connie Wittier. Also attending
the wedding were his brother
Mark and grandmother Mrs.
Theresa Jirout of Windsor.
The young couple will soon be
returning to Sarnia to live. A
closed reception and dinner is
being planned for them in
Dashwood in June with
friends and relatives in the
area.
We offer our sympathy to
the family of the late Miss
Olive O'Brien of the Blue
Water Rest Home who pass -
ea away on Saturday May 28.
Our sympathy also goes to
the wife and family of tht late
Gerald Gingerich who passed
away suddenly on Sunday
night. Both these people will
be missed in the community.
Ababyshowerwas held for
Kim Parrish (nee Oesch) on
Sunday afternoon for a few
friends and relatives at the
home of Marg Gingerich
which was enjoyed by all and
many useful gifts were given
to Kim.
The lucky winner of a
10 -speed bicycle from a birth-
day sale draw at Don's,
Knechtel store on Saturday
was Doug DeBus. The next
draw for a car will be on June
3.
A baby shower was held at
the home of Norma Grainger
RR 2 Zurich for Karen and
baby Bradly last Tuesday
evening.
Jules and Helen Corriveau
of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
spent the American holiday
weekend with his brother and
wife, Wilfred and Beatrice
Corriveau. All attended the
R.N.A. nu -sing graduation
exercise dinner and evening
of the latter's daughter Mary -
Helen Rossiter in London on
Friday from the Regional
School of Nursing with
festivities held at the Old
Dutch Community Hall.

day with close friends Leo
and Irene Hoffman and
'helped them to celebrate their
silver wedding anniversary
with a dinner and dance at the ,
Pine Ridge Chalet on Satur-
day May 28. Congratulations

Some coming for the ocoa-
sion were from Windsor, Sar-
nia, Hamilton, St. Thomas
and London. Even the
original wedding party of 25
years ago was present.
A speedy recovery is wish-
ed for Ted Liebold and Mr.
Gordon Smith of the Blue
Water, who are- patients in
Exeter Hospital.
A family birthday party
and supper was held at the
home of Cindy and Francis
Denomme on Sunday for their
son Jimmy who was four
years old. It was attended by
his grandparents, aunt,
uncles and cousins.

girls spent the weekend
visiting with relatives in
Windsor.
A family get together was
held at the home of Lee and
Rose Regier on Saturday in
honor of Richard and Janet
Regier and family who are
here visiting until next week
from Calgary. Dinner guests
were Grandpa, Peter Regier
from Kitchener and Mr. and
Mrs. Lennis Regier and Mr.
and Mrs. Peter Regier, Jr.
and family all of London,
Frank and Doreen Regier and
