Host mutual aid meeting
Crediton firemen stage fireworks

The Crediton volunteer
firemen hosted the Mutual
Aid meeting for the area Mon-
day evening with volunteers
from Dashwood, Huron Park.
Centralia, Brucefield,
Brusselss, Blyth and
Wingham.
A speaker from Harvestore
spoke on the proper handling
of fires in their blue silos.
Lunch was provided by the
Crediton firemen.
WI meets
The Crediton Womens In-
stitute met Wednesday even-
ing in the town hall. About 30
members and guests were
present and enjpyed a slide
presentation by Mrs. Marg
Robinson of Clinton. Mrs.
Robinson is a member of
Crossroads Canada and spent
six months on a teaching ex-
perience in Java.
Lorna Finkbeiner was in
charge of the program. Win-
ners of contests were Susanne
Finkbeiner and Angela Mor-
rissey and Dorothy Lambie.
Lunch was served by Ruth,
Eveland, Cora Wein and
Eleanor Roeszler.
The speaker was thanked
by Angela Morrissey and Jo
Gielen. A collection was taken
for the use of Dr. Timothy of
Java to build a new school.
Fireworks
The Crediton Firemen's
Association held their annual
fireworks Monday evening.
Dallas preformed before the
mammoth display began to
the delight of several hundred
people.
Lovely hues of red, white,
blue. green, yellow and lilac.
gold and silver lit up the sky.

the holiday weekend in
Rochester, New York.
Rochester, the flower capital
of the world was celebrating
lilac time. The streets, stores
and native people were all
seen wearingthe lilac, deep
purple or white of the lilac.
The bus load arrived back in
Crediton Monday evening in
time for the fireworks display
Seniors help
in anniversary

The senior citizens after-
noon get together took the
form of a pot luck dinner and
surprise party for Mr. and
Mrs. Eli Brown, Exeter who
are celebrating 60 years of
married life.
Following the first course
an anniversary cake was cut
by the couple and served with
ice cream. This was followed
by cards. Happy anniversary
was sang by all present, led
by Mr. Pat Skinner, a brother
of Mrs. Brown.
The regularMonday even-
ing euchre party in the com-
munity.centre was convened
by Mr. and Mrs. Larry
Cronyn and Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Hirtzel with 12
tables playing.
Prize winners were: ladies
high, Desta Rock; lone hands,
Mary Kooy; low, Dorothy
Darling; man's high score,
Bob Blair; lone hands, Ed
Armstrong; low score, Elmer
Desch. The next party is May
30.

Hirtzel spent the holiday
weekend at their trailer at
Fisherman's Cove.

Provincial honour winners,
Diane Chalmers, Julie Town-
send and Estella Wilson and
all the ladies who had helped
with quilting during the
winter.
Roll call was a paper clipp-
ing on Russia and Dorothy
Bell introduced the guest
speakers, Elma and Archie
Etherington who showed pic-
tures of their trip to Russia as
well as some woodwork done
in Russia, and the dolls that
are graduated in size. The
pictures and commentary
took us`from Siberia with its
90 degree temperature to the
Black Sea, to the fields grow-
ing tea and figs. Russia is a
country that has had manyin-
vaders over the years. The ar-
chitecture shows the Turkish
occupation. She has been
twice attacked by Germany,
also by France etc. 111r. and
Mrs. Etherington were thank-
ed by Mrs. Robert Kinsman.
Mrs. Carl Payne will be the
delegate to the District An-
nual. Mrs. Stewart Pepper
gave the Sunshine Report.

way UCW opened With 11
members repeating in unison
the Auxiliary Paper and The
Lord's Prayer. Jeanette
Hodgins read the scripture
from John 2, verses 1-12.
Plans were completed for
the bowling banquet to which
the Anglican ladies catered.
Discussed were plans for the
celebration of the 75th an-
niversary for the Anglican
Church on the last Sunday in
May. Some of the past
Ministers will be present at
the Anniversary celebration.
Also plans were completed
for the strawberry and ham
supper which will be held -
Wednesday, June 15. Jeanette
Hodgins made a motion that
we send $50 to the Huron
Camp. A motion was made by
Millie Steeper to send $50 to
Prime Mate World Relief
Fund.
Olive Hodgins gave a con-
test which was won by Doris
Hodgins. A tasty lunch was
served by Gertie Hodgins and
Olive Hodgins, and a time of
fellowship followed.
