Junior Farmers The South Huron Junior Farmers have been very busy the past month and a half, and have several upcoming events to keep them even busier the next few months. A report on president's workshop in London was given by Maurice Ryan. Maurice Ryan. Gerald Johns, Rob Essery and Florence Ryan attended from oi.r club Mary Ryan reported on the progress of the wooden ben- ches that the club is having made at ARC Industries for the Kirkton Community Cen- tre. They are to be ready in a week and a half and will be at the next meeting. Florence Ryan reported on her trip to Hosier Recreations Workshop in Indiana. She en- couraged anyone who had the chance to go as it was very beneficial and full of new ideas. Information can be got to apply next year from her at any time. The County report outlined several upcoming events: the mystery tour July 29 weekend; Oktoberfest, Oc- tober 1; March conference at Thunder Bay next year with deadline for names being in the fall; Canada's Wonderland day for Junior Farmers, July 22 and deadline for tickets being June 10. Upcoming as well is the Hensall fair June 7 and the club is having a food booth: Lots of help will be needed all day. The club. decided to enter a baseball team in the slow pitch tourna- ment June 3 and 4 at Dublin as there was lots of interest. The annual county formal is June 3 at the Pineridge Chalet. The club held nomina- tions for King and Queen and Michelle Regier and Maurice active Ryan will be representatives - the very best of luck is wish- ed to them both! Thanks to John Van Vliet • and Jim McNichol for acting as our scrutineers. ..The club received a letter from the Friend of 4-H and $100 has, been donated to them. The Junior Farmer of the month was presented to Lee Hodgert for all his hard work on the car rally. As there was a lot of new members, everyone introduc- ed themselves and stated their names and position on club executive if so, to help new members become familiar with club members. A very entertaining slide show followed the meeting with . Kevin Dutot and Bill Armstrong showing their slides from the Australian trip and Janet Shapton her pictures. A special thanks to all three was given by Mary Ryan on the club's behalf. Blood letting short of quota Another Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic is over in Exeter and unfortunately not as suc- cessful as some in the past. Convener for the sponsor- ing Ausable River Nomads Marie Brunzlow says, "Many thanks to the 213 donors who did attend our clinic with 19 deferrals making a total of 194 units of blood being given." The quota set at 225 was not reached but with a fall clinic set for October 12, 1983 the Nomads are hoping for a big- ger and better turnout. Mrs. Brunzlow concluded, "We would like to thank Mr. Wooden and staff for the use of the high school gym, Howard Holtzman of A & H, Tuckey Beverages, Frayne's and the merchants who displayed our posters and the Kinettes. Without the help of these people and the donors who take the time to give, there wouldn't be any Red Cross clinics."
