Clandeboye Institute roll call features
introduction to 4-H homemakingclu�bs
The Clandeboye Women's
Institute held their May
meeting Wednesday evening
and had as their guests, the
4-H Homemaking girls and
their mothers and leaders.
Roll call was, Your first in-
troduction to 4-H Homemak-
ing or to the Women's In-
stitute and was answered by
18 members.
Mary Scott gave an in-
teresting report on Officer's
Conference which she attend-
ed at Waterloo University
during the first week of May.
June Henry and Jean Hodgins
were chosen as delegates to
Middlesex North District An-
nual at Poplar Hill, May 19.
The 4-H girls were in
charge of the program.
Clandeboye "Lovely
Lookers" presented their Ex-
hibit from Achievement Day,
"Be an Informed Consumer."
Clandeboye 2 "Glamour
Girls" presented their
demonstration "Help! My
Skin is a Mess!"
The girls 4-1 books were on
display - and were very in-
teresting to look through.
Much -credit goes to the
leaders, June Henry, Elaine
Noyes. Christine Ilodgson and
Jear Amos.
At Achievement Day May

their Provincial Honours
completion of 12 clubs and

of six clubs. Twenty-four girls
from the two Clandeboye
clubs completed the project,
"Looking Great, Feeling
Great!"
The fall project will be a
cooking course, "Ontario
Heritage" and Clandeboye
W.I. will sponsor three clubs.
Joan Leger and Helen Cunn-
ingham will lead the third
club while the former club
leaders will continue their
leadership.
President Elsie Lewis
thanked the girls for their pro-
gram and lunch committee
Marion Hodgson, Betty
Coughlin, Terry Heffernan
and Jean Hodgins served the
large group which completed
the evening.
Mrs. Agnes Hornell and her
daughter, Margaret Hettrick,
of Kirkland Lake, arrived
Monday to spend three weeks
in their old home in the
village. Mrs. Hornell is 97
years of age and is in good
health, except for her slowly
failing eyesight.
Catherine and Cheryl Lynn
spent a weekend in
Washington recently with the
North Middlesex District
High school.
Art and Jean Hodgins were
hosts for a Jack and Jill
shower Sunday afternoon in
honour of Cora Engel and Pat
Ryan whose marriage takes
place -June 11. Following a
smorgasbord meal, the cou-
ple were the recipients of
many beautiful gifts.
Mrs. Wilmer Scott attended
a community bridal shower
on Sunday afternoon at the
Ailsa Craig United Church in
honour of her granddaughter,
Sandra Heaman, bride -elect
of June 18.

The Spring Thankoffering
meeting of Kippen UCW was
' held at the church May 10
with co -hostesses Mrs. Emer-
son Kyle and Mrs. John
Sinclair welcoming the
guests.
President Mrs. David
Turner chaired the meeting
and opened by explaining the
origin of Mother's Day, the
theme of the evening. Follow-
ing the singing of a hymn a
reading written by Marjorie
Holmes entitled Mother's Day
was given by Mrs. David
Cooper.
Mrs. Donald Moffat in-
troduced the guest speaker
David McNight, pastor of
Egmondville United Church
who enlarged the theme of
"Mother Power."
He concluded that a
Mother's love is inspirational,
intiutive, and tolerant of dif-
ferences, always seeking hap-
piness in one's offspring.
Two duets beautifully sung
by the mother -daughter duo
of Mrs. Keith Lovell and
Melanie added to the impact
of the theme of the evening.
Courtesy remarks were
given• by Mrs. Roland
McGregor. Lunch and a
social hour followed in the
Sunday School.
The June meeting will be
held in the Lambton Centre
with Rev. McMullen in
charge.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug
Caldwell, Moose jaw, Saskat-
chewan' visited relatives in
the Kippen area for a few
days last week.
Mary Jane McGregor, R.N.
has returned to Lac la Biche
in Alberta.
Brucefield Youth Group
held a meeting May 5. The
female members decorated a
Mother's Day Cake which
was won by Mrs. Hubert,
Clinton. The male members
are in the midst of making
lawn ornaments such as
Sylvester the Cat, Tweety
Bird, etc.
The draw for the Mother's
Day prize was made. First
prize, a Mother's Day Cake
was won by Mrs. Hubert,
Clinton, second prize, a
ceramic milk pitcher, was
won by Gayle Pepper,
Kippen.
All members gathered for a •
short discussion and the
meeting was closed with
prayer.

The United Church Women
met at the home of Ellen
Smithers Wednesday. As the
ladies gathered the recorded
piano music of Luella
Smithers was being played.
Some of the selections were
"My Task", "Be Thou My Vi -
Sion" and Danny Boy.
After listening to the
musical selections Dorothy
Fenner gave the call to Wor-
ship. "Mothers" was the
theme for the devotions. the
poem, "Family Life," was
read.
Violet Brown read the
Scripture Proverbs 1- verses
7-9 and Proverbs 23 verses
22-26, This was followed by
Prayer. The poem, "A
Tribute to My Mother" was
read followed by the reading
"Thank God for Christian
Mothers".
In the next reading,
"Mothers Hold the Key to the
Good Life", we learn that the
difference between right and
wrong is very dim and mangy
forces work against the home.
The poem "My Mother's
Apron Strings" was read and
this part of the meeting which
had been .presented by
Dorothy and Violet closed
with singing.
President Isobel Bullock
presided for the business.
After the minutes and
treasurer's report were given
Eloise Eagleson read a letter
from The Irwins who are in
Korea. Inez Woodburn read a
letter of thanks from the Bi-
ble Society for the used
stamps.
Plans were completed for
the strawberry and ham sup-
per
which is being held. The
roll call, your favourite spring
flower, was answered by
twenty ladies and one visitor.

Centralia
The service in the United
Church on Sunday was con-
ducted by Bob Heywood, in
the absence of Rev. , Crowe
who was attending con-
ference in Woodstock.
"Peace" was the topic chosen
by Bob for his inspiring
message.
The quartet sang two
numbers and Bob favoured
with a solo "How Great Thou
Art". All numbers.were ap-
preciated by the congrega-
tion. Mrs..Gill assisted at the
piano.
Tom Kooy is attending the
131st session of the Synod of
Diocese of Huron this week,
which is being held at
Althouse College in London
May 15,16 and 17.
Tom and Mary Kooy visited
Friday evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Noels, Lucan.
After the Benediction and
Grace the hostess served a
tasty lunch assisted by
Dorothy Fenner and Violet
Brown and a time of
fellowship was enjoyed.
Special music was provided
for Family Sunday in, the
United Church with Evelyn
Curls at the orgpn and
Marlene Turner at the piano.
The children's story was en-
titled "He Told the Truth".
The sermon's topic was "The
Home Beautiful".
Robert Alan Alderson, son
of Alan and Leona Alderson
was baptized during the
service.
May 2, Martha English,
with her classmates of 1923
Viere special guests at the an-
nual dinner of the Toronto
General Hospital Alumnae. It
was their 60th anniversary.
Sunday visitors with Harry
and Ruby Isaac were David
Isaac, their grandson, and
Barbara Glanville.
Mirn and Mildred Hancock
celebrated their 35th Wedding
Anniversary at Corruna on
Saturday night and Sunday.
Clarence and Geraldine Stone
visited them to offer their
congratulations. •
