Well here are the answers -
1. Hollanders are licorice fanatics. In fact, per capita,
they eat more licorice than any other country in the world.
Licorice is always on hand and in Holland there are more
than 50,000 places to purchase the black candy. Millions of
kilos are eaten each year and licorice export to other
countries is great, even to Japan and Ireland. The Dutch
love the double -salted licorice the best.
2. Vincent Van Gogh was a little more than hard of
hearing. In fact he had no ear. The famous Dutch master
artist cut off his own ear.
3. Friday is wash day in the Netherlands. It's time to
scrub cars, windows, walls and sidewalks.,
4. Dutch claim to have invented the game "kolf," that's
golf in English. Originally it was played on ice in the
winter and made use of something resembling a hockey
stick to batter a grapefruit -sized leather covered wooden
ball around the countryside.
5. One-half of Holland is below sea level and had to be
reclaimed from the salt water. The land is protected by
dikes, some 1,500 miles of them.
6. Golden Earring is the band In 1974 their popular hit so

7. Three million tulips herald spring in Ottawa. Queen
Juliana lived in Ottawa during World War II and
presented the bulbs as a gift in apprecation of the

11. A Dutch architectural accomplishment was the use of
glass blocks as structural elements.
12. Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp (1597-1653) was a great
Dutch admiral. He went to 'sea at the age of eight and
claimed 30 victories over the Spanish and English.
13. Hair irons are a very unusual and special part of the
Dutch woman's jewelery. The gold, coiled hair pins
complete the lace bonnet apparel.
14. Windmills are also used as a form of communications
across the polders. Set at different positions the windmill
sails let neighbors know that the windmills are not
pumping; that it's time to start work atter a short -sot-
fee" break; a death as occurred; it's time for a party, a
celebration or there's been a birth.
15. Norm Van Brocklin died on May 2, 1983 from a heart
attack. Van Brocklin quarterbacked the Los Angeles
Rams in 1951 and led the Philadelphia Eagles to a
championship in 1960. He coached the Minnesota Vikings
in 1961 and Atlanta in 1968.
16. A legendary ship, the Flying Dutchman with its
ghostly captain and crew, is an omen of ill -luck, doomed to
sail the seas forever.
