Floral parades and festivals are held throughout the
year and Holland is the home of the largest daily flower
auction in the world. Cut Flowers from the auctions are
flown all over the world.
Across Holland's beautiful landscape about 900 wind-
mills can be seen. A large number of them are still in
working condition and are used to crush grain, saw wood,
twine cables and pump water. Near Rotterdam, 19 giant
mills, each five stories high can be seen at work.
Holland's Art
Holland is fWed with many art museums displaying
paintings of many of the great masters including Van
Gogh and Rembrandt.
The two most popular museums are Amsterdam's
Rtjksmuseum and the Hague's Mauritshuis.
Rtjksmuseum is ranked among the top dozen in Europe.
It features the most popular Dutch masters of the 16th and
17th centuries as well as many other world renowned
artists.
Mauritshuls is a 17th -century patrician home that
displays only first rate collections. The emphasis is more
toward 19th and 20th century Dutch art. An extensive Van

art.
Progressive Architecture
Holland's soft, marshy ground meant that huge
cathedrals and large structures couldn't be built during
the Gothic period.
Today Holland has a few tall buildings but a 10 story
building is considered to be a sky -scraper.
Stained glass added to Dutch architecture in the 16th
century when it was used in churches.
17th Century Charm
Holland is blessed with the 17th century charm of over
300 castles, many surrounded by intricate harbors with
medieval characteristics. Many of the castles make an
ideal atniosphere for picnics and sight-seeing.
Ticket draw on May 21
Tickets for the trip for two to Amsterdam will be on sale
until Saturday, May 21 at 6 p.m., when the draw will be
made. The air tickets are good from September 15, 1983
until May 15, 1984.
Tickets can be purchased for $2 each or three for $5 at
most Clinton businesses or from any member of the
Klompen Feest committee. Get yours now, there is a
limited supply.
