Thompson and Sons Ltd., the patent company of Hyland Brand hybrid seed corn, soybeans, wheat, and barley seed, has announced a major expansion with the ac- quisition of seed corn process- ing facilities in Blenheim. "In spite 'of what are generally described as down times in the seed corn market, the acceptance of our Hyland corn hybrids has ex- panded so quickly that we now need our own facilities," said Wes and John Thompson, speaking from the company's Blenheim headquarters.,. "We now have a substantial investment in the seed corn business, and intend to keep Hyland growing," they add- ed. The Thompsons pointed out that even though competi- tion among seed corn com- panies is particularly keen now, Hyland will be bringing in new Canadian corn varieties to cgmpete with the exisiting ones. "We wanted Canadian pro- duction right here ` in southwestern Ontario in order that we could control and maintain our high quality standards," the Thompsons. said.
