W. G. Thompson and Sons
Ltd., the patent company of
Hyland Brand hybrid seed
corn, soybeans, wheat, and
barley seed, has announced a
major expansion with the ac-
quisition of seed corn process-
ing facilities in Blenheim.
"In spite 'of what are
generally described as down
times in the seed corn
market, the acceptance of our
Hyland corn hybrids has ex-
panded so quickly that we
now need our own facilities,"
said Wes and John Thompson,
speaking from the company's
Blenheim headquarters.,.
"We now have a substantial
investment in the seed corn
business, and intend to keep
Hyland growing," they add-
ed. The Thompsons pointed
out that even though competi-
tion among seed corn com-
panies is particularly keen
now, Hyland will be bringing
in new Canadian corn
varieties to cgmpete with the
exisiting ones.
"We wanted Canadian pro-
duction right here ` in
southwestern Ontario in order
that we could control and
maintain our high quality
standards," the Thompsons.
