WILLIAM ROHDE Thornes Rood The March meeting of the United Church Women was held Monday night with 21 ladies present. The Theme for the meeting was "Stewardship" given by Mrs. Paul Passmore, a poem "The Stewardship of Living" and the Scripture read by Mrs. Wayne Rowe. Mrs. Passmore led in prayer, and a reading "Joy of Service." Mrs. Wayne Rowe and Mrs. Barry Jeffery gave readings. Mrs. Reg Hodgert gave a reading "When God Created Mothers." The offer- ing was received by Mrs. Hodgert and Mrs. Jeffery, with prayer by Mrs. Passmore. Mrs. Passmore closed the worship service with a poem. Mrs. Ken Duncan, presi- dent, opened the business part of the meeting with a poem "The Beacon of Light," followed with the usual business. Mrs. Reg Hodgert gave the treasurer's report and Mrs. Dav'd Passmore gave the Manse report. We received an invitation to meet with Centralia ladies April 7 at 8 p.m. The special evens might of the Huron Perth Presbyterial United Church Women is to be held Monday April 11 in North Street United Church, Goderich. The meeting was closed with singing a hymn and prayer by Mrs. Duncan. A delicious lunch was serv- ed by Group W under the leadership of Mrs. Wayne Rowe and the hostess Mrs. Arnold Cann. The pro- gramme committee each wore a straw hat trimmed with green for St. Patrick's, and the lunch was on the St. Patrick Theme. Church Service - Rev. Robert Matheson was in charge of the regular church service Sunday. He told the children a story "The Wise Fool." The sermon was entitled "Real People." The Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32 speaks about the Kingdom of God. Jesus ad- dresses his words to both a group of sinners and social outcasts as well as to several pharisees who consider thernselvesto bathe epitome of piety. The official board meeting will be held Wednesday March 16 at 8 p.m. in Elim- ville United Church. The Messengers will hold their meeting Thursday March 17 at 6:45 to 8 p.m. in Princess visits at Clandeboye Mrs. Peter Groenewegen was hostess for the March meeting of the Clandeboye Women's Instityk Roll call, "Show a usefuFarticle made of plastic that is used in your home," was answered by 11 members. The program, "Agriculture and Canadian Industries," convened by Mrs. Groenewegen, arranged for guest speaker, Marianne Hartwick, Middlesex County Dairy Princess, who gave a most interesting talk on dairy products and the value of milk in the diet. She concluded her talke with a contest, won by Gladys Cunningham, the prize being, a cook book, using dairy products. President Edie Wor- thington conducted the busiess with plans for a dessert euchre April 26 at St. James Church with group three in charge. Group four are to make plans for a bus trip also Velma hardy to con- vene a trip to the Iluron Coun- try Playhouse to see "South Pacific". Clandeboye W.f. will share duties with Lucan W.I. at the Red Crass Blood clinic in Lucan, April 21. Ruth (fill and Elsie Lewis will attend a meeting on Monday to make plans for it. Group 1 will prepare the slate of officers for the annual meeting in April. Lunch committee Lucille Blake, Kay Armstrong and Irene Lynn assisted the hostess and all enjoyed a social time. Mary and Wilmer Scott returned last week from a holiday in Florida. They ac- companied Dot and Lloyd Elgie, of London, by car. Gerald and Irene Lynn returned Monday from a holi- day in Mexico with the PAG corn group. Pat and ,lean Hodgins returned Sunday from a 16 day tour to Florida with the Elderton -McNaughton Tours. They had beautiful warm, sunny weather, temperature in the 75-85 degrees most of the time, with only one rainy day. Dorothy and Eldon Young and Pat and Jim Davis, all of i,ucan, were also on the bus tour. Thames Road Church. A Sunday School meeting will be held Tuesday evening March 22 at 8:15 p.m. at the home of Mrs. William Rohde. Choir practice will be held Thursday evening March 24. Anyone wishing to join the choir please attend. Donations for the Bunny Bundle will be taken at Sun- day School the next three Sundays. The computer study was approved as part of the ad- ministration budget which totals $349,120. Morris Township Reeve William Elston called for discussion on the study because, as he pointed out, if council has the study down it should be prepared to go along with the consulting firms recommendation which may include spending $100,000 to $200,000 for a computer outfit. Reeve Paul Steckle of Stanley Township asked if Health budget nears million Huron County council ap- proved the 1983 Huron Health Unit budget totalling $974,084 at its March 3 session. The county's share of $240,965 represents an in- crease of eight percent over 1982 county costs. Clerk - treasurer William Manly add- ed that after deducting $28,350 (the total cost for the new health educator position ap- proved last fail) the increase is actually 5.07 percent. The province will chip in $722,897 while other revenue pays the rest of the Health Unit budget. This budget is subject to Ministry of Health approval. The largest expenditure is salaries and wages budgeted at $684,854. The second largest expense is employee benefits budgeted at $103,274. "If we're not reducing staff, what is the purposeof getting a computer?" Clerk -treasurer William Hanly said he doubted if staff would be reduced but it won't increase. "What main reason for the computer is availability of in- formation that is up to date and can he gotten out quick- ly," said the clerk -treasurer. He added that if the con- sulting firm doesn't think the county is ready for a com- puter, it should state that in its report. Zurich Reeve I)on Van Pat- ter suggested the county get the information it needs from a computer supplier. He also said he is surprised the coun- ty is not already on computers. "There's no doubt we could go to IMB," said Hanly, "but I can guarantee you we'll end up with IBM equipment. It might not be the right equip- ment for our specifications." He • explained the county needs software equipment that nieets it needs. "I want to make sure the computer will meet the coun- ty's needs for the next 20 years," said Rarity. The consulting firm of Woods -Gordon of Toronto will prepare the study. The general administration budget total $349,120, up from $294,900 in 1982. This includes salaries of $206,560 up from $196,700 in 1982. The general government budget totals $16.3,880 up from $150,700 in 1982. The cost of council sessions and commit-. tee, board and other meetings increased because there will be one additional meeting in the year. (County council changed its meeting date from the fourth Thursday of the month to the first Thurs- day of the month which results in one additional meeting.) In 1983, $10,500 has been set aside for this category while $12,320 was set aside in the 1982 budget. Reeve Tom Cunningham noted that county councillors did not take a wage increase for 1983. The total maintenance budget has been set at $251,117, up from $241,612 in 1982.
