Westman with a life member-
ship pin for her service of
many years a program con-
vener of the General U.C.W.
This reception will be held in
the Solarium at St. Marys
Memorial Hospital on March
10 at 2 p.m. All U.C.W.
members, friends,- and
relatives are invited to attend.
Mrs. G. McRobert was in
charge of the program and
took her topic from the cur-
rent Study Book "Living bet-
ween memory and hope" and
entitled her message "The
Theology of Prosperity." This
dealt with the disparity bet-
ween rich and poor.
Prosperity is having more
than enough. Prosperity
belongs to the principalities
and powers which are so often
mentioned in this book.
Poverty is that most of us
have too much month left at

Mrs. Harold Hardie con-
ducted the program on the
"Journey to the Cross'. As
March is designated as nutri-
tion and fitness month, Mrs.
Cliff Hardie conducted a
questionaire on this subject.
Mrs. H. Hardie concluded
with a poem "Others" and
Mrs. Humphreys closed the
meeting.
A sing -song of Easter
hymns was enjoyed led by
Mrs. Chas. Gowan. Mrs. Ken
Hardie and Mrs. Humphreys
assisted the hostess to serve
lunch.
/ World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer
Service was held at the St.
Thomas Anglican Church on
Friday. The theme was "New
Persons in Christ." The order
of the service was set up by
the "Christian Women of the
Caribbean" who say that they
live intimately with God's
Creation of sun, sand and sea
and are a.people seeking a
new Caribbean identity.
The service at St. Thomas
was under the direction of
Mrs. Jack Noon and Mrs. Lois
Herbert. There were
representatives from the
Wesley and Granton United
Church taking part in the
program.
The guest speaker was Mrs.
Diane O'Shea who told of her
trip to Jamaica, saying that
poverty was very evident and
that the Pepple:in thgsg
Islands are not the happy
care -free people that we are
'pd to believe.
There are three
characteristics that we need
today to face the future and
its problems; 1 )trust in God,
2)charity and 3)a firm belief
in the acting power of prayer.

At the Granton United
Church the Rev. Bruce Pierce
was in charge of the worship
continuing with his lenten
series on "The Words from
the Cross" entitling • his
message "The Face of
Faithfulness - John".
In place of the anthem, Mr.
and Mrs. Michael Pierce of
Sarnia led in the singing and
also sang together and when
the children went downstairs
to Sunday School the visitors
went down with them and
became their teachers for
that day.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church the Rev. Peter Der-
rick was the celebrant of the
Holy Eucharist assisted by
John llerbert. The First
Lesson was read by Susan
Noon, and the Epistle of the
Day was read by Betty Ann
Herbert.
It being the third Sunday in
Lent the Rev. Derrick preach-
ed his sermon from Luke 13;.
this was on the parable of the
fig tree and sin, repentence
and patience. We don't have
eternity to make up our
minds, as we take time to be
committed and use faith in
the time of Lent, let us take a
good look at ourselves and
reflect on the message of God,
said the Rector.
Anglican Church Women
The A.C.W. of St. Thomas
Church held their March
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Jack Noon, Co-ordinator on
March 2. Mrs. Noon welcom-
ed the ladies, also the new
rector, the Rev. Peter Der-
rick. who responded that he
was °leased to be there.
Mrs. Crouch gave an in-
teresting account of the past
history of the Village of Gran-
ton. A contest on St. Patrick's
Day was enioved.
Mrs. Don Roloson and Mrs.
Lois Herbert attended the
Perth Deanery Great Chapter
Meeting held at Trinity
Anglican Church, Sebr-
inlzville on February 28.
Explorer news
The Granton Explorers met
at the United Church on
February 28. Roll call was
answered by "Who is your
best friend." Leader Julie
McRobert read the story of
Florence Nightingale "The
Lady with the Lamp". A few
games were played and the
meeting closed with taps.
