Mann says he felt there was room for another seed house in the top farming communi- ty of south Huron and north Middlesex. Since starting operation on October 21; 1982, Mann says sales have far exceeded his fondest expectations. Golden Harvest Seeds will be mainly a wholesale opera- tion and will be stressing research in Canada and the United States for high yielding corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and barley. The owner of Golden Harvest Seeds says farmers need to be well versed on markets and can be suc- cessful by the use of pre - selling methods before plan- ting and could control their own destiny by putting up their own storage. He added, "Storage facilities can allow the farmer to keep his product at home until the time of sale and such facilities could pay for themselves in three to four years. The new local company will be buying and selling a wide variety of seed and feed grains. For the 1984 season, all Golden Harvest Seeds will be available with their own trademark and'bags. • The local firm will likely be branching out to the sales of garden fertilizer, plants, shrubs and supplies. The Golden Harvest staff in addition to president Doug Mann includes his son Brod who is in charge of sales, Ron Squire who has 20 years of ex- perience in the agricultural industry, secretary Kim McCann andpart-time employee Al Case.
