WARNER
By Lynne Farquhar
I'm afraid the weather put
a damper op our plans fora
Winter Weettend this

Our plans to go ahead with
the sno-pjtch were 'changed
when the frozen ground at -the

sea of mud on the weekend.
After consulting with local
Weatherman Jay Campbell
our hopes were dashed for. a .
sufficient snow . fall by
Saturday. '
Sorry to the teams w'hd
planned on attending and
keep us in mind for next
winter. Hopefully -we'll get
more co-operation from the
weather.

AAidgets need win, tonight
Three minorteams ousted
by
The Exeter bantams and
pee wees joined the juveniles
on the sidelines in OMHA
playoffs this,week, while the
local midgets will have their
backs to the wall, when they
travel to St. Marys tonight for
their fourth meeting.
The midgets were beaten
5-4 at the rec centre. Wednes-
day_as St. Marys took a 2-1
lead in the best -of -five playoff
set.
The other three minor
teams were eliminated in
Volleyball team playoffs
South Huron's junior girls
volleyball teanrfinished the
regular season in last place
after losses to Goderich and
Stratford Northwestern last
Thursday, in Clinton.
Their record of four wins
and 16 losses puts SH in
eleventh position. All odd
number teams play in one
pool in the quarter finals.
Stratford Northwestern hosts
the ,junior allday tournament
today. The top three,teams
from both of the' two pools
qualify. for the semi-finals.
Exeter will have to fight very
hard and consistent to grab
a semi's spot.
South Huron is capable of
surprising themselves with
good playing. Despite their
last place finish they should
not be ruled out. In exhibition
they have beaten the second
and third place teams, St.
Marys and Madill.
Coach Pete Zankowski
plans to mainly utilize his
strongest players in today's
games. In past he has played
all of his 15 players equally.
Today'sresults will show
whether his strategy works.
For practice Zankowski did
use his strong line Thursday
against Northwestern, but he
realized the Huskies ``were
just too.powerful". Stratford
cleaned up on the disorganiz-
ed Panthers 15-7 and 15-3.
Zankowski feels his team
could have beaten Goderich,
who finished second last in
Huron -Perth standings. Play
was very',scrappy on both
sides of ttie net but the Vik-
ings made good on South
Huron's mistakes to win 15-3
and.15-8. Zankowski felt his
girls were "over anxious'"yet
did not concentrate on the
games enough.
Today may mark the end of
the junior girl's season unless
they pull together and sur-
prise some middle-of-the-road
teams.
Novice team out
•
The Exeter novice hockey
.team was eliminated from
OMHA playoff action
Wednesday as they lost 5-4 to
St. Marys and on the -weekend
they broke even in a tourn
ment In Seaforth.
In the final OMHA game,
three late third period goals
by St. Marys sunk the Exeter'
ship.
The locals jumped in front
3-0 in the first period on suc-
cessful shots by Brad .Thomp
son, Jason Heywood and
Mark McDonald. Assisting
were Heywood, Ryan Linden -
field, Tony Armstrong and
Ryan Stuart.
The fourth Exeter score
came early in the third period.
as Jason Heywood converted
a pass from Brad Thompson.
In the first game of the
tourney in Seaforth Saturday,
Exeter defeated the hcsst
team.6-1.
Jason Heywood was the top
goal producer -for the locals
with a three goal perfor-
mance. Two came on
unassisted efforts and Allan
McFalls assisted on the other.
Fred Godbolt was close
behind with a two goal effort
and Rygn Stuart notched the
other score. Getting one assist
was Steve Farquhar.
In the finalzame loss by a
score of 6-3 to Tavistock,
Jason Heywood notched a
pair of goals and Fred God -
bolt fired the other successful
shot. Brad Thompson picked
up one assist.
GUEST ATTRACTION ,-- A prenovice precision team from Exeter provided part of
the entertainment at the Zurich Figure Skating Carnival. Waiting to go on are (back

Tobi Taylor and (front) Barbara Tiernan, Tina Taylor, Debra Pfaff, Nancy Broadfoot,
Suanne Soldan and Donald Broadfoot.
SH junior basketballers
in do or die situation
South Iluron's junor basket-
ball team has forced
themselves into a do-or-die
situation 'after two league
losses to Listowel and
Goderich.
To retain the sixth and final
playoff spot Exeter must
defeat Norwell today in the
final regular season game.
The game is in Palmerston
so South Iluron will have to '
adjust to the extremely small
gym space. Norwell's playing'
area is considerably less thah
regulation size.
Wednesday in Listowel the
juniors blew what should
have been the %yin that plac-
ed them'in the playoffs. They
were behind all game with the
buzzer sounding on a close but
losing 37-31 score.
Both Scott Bogart and Scot t
Lovie were fouled out in the
last quarter. Lovie managed
seven points as did George
Pratt. Rob Tait scored six
points for the Panthers.
South Huron's juniors were
completely outplayed Mon-
day at home against
Goderich. The Viking's scor-
ing drive was never slopped
as the 56-26 score indicates.
The Panthers had many
turnovers and were often nut
of control. Rob Tait headed
the junior squad with 9 points.
Norwell should prove very
tough opposition today.
Goderich easily• beat the
Panthers and earlier in the
' season Norwell defeated
Goderich. if South Huron's
juniors do win today they will
start the quarter finals on
Friday.
South Huron's midget team
are currently in last place
after a 70-15 beating by
Goderich. They have won on-
ly two games in the regular
season.

and two seconds Saturday,
but, fell one short of tying the

The teams were tied at 2-2
at the end of the first period
of play with Steve Anderson
scoring both goals for Exeter.
One was on a solo effort and
the second on passes from
Jeff Kints and Rob McKnight.

Answer:
A recent CBC MARKET -PLACE program urged
that families making funeral prearrangements
take the precaution of asking the funeral direc-

seen as additional protection for families put-
