Located at 176 Oxford St. Hensoll, Ontario PH: 262.3448 or 262-2615 Complaint procedur. set A five step policy on how trustees deal with complaints from parents and ratepayers was approved by the Huron County Board of Education. It was called a "much more satisfactory policy" than the previous one by Trustee Joan Van den Broeck. She com- mended the personnel com- mittee which prepared the policy and presented it at the board's February 7 meeting. Personnel committee chair- man John Elliott said the former policy had trustees re- questing complaint forms from ratepayers or parents once the trustee was initially notified. Mr. Elliott express- ed his opinion that it was, too soon to request the complaint form. The new policy is as follows: The trustee will ask if the person with the complaint talked about the problem or mentioned his/her dissatisfaction with the prin- cipal. If not the trustee will advise the person this is the first step to take. If the person making the complaint is not satisfied after speaking with the prin- cipal, the trustee may refer the matter to the director of education or suggest the per- son with the complaint con- tact the director. The director or his designate shall attempt to get all the facts and reach a satisfactory conclusion. 1f the person with the com- plaint is still not satisfied with the solving of the problem at this point, he/she will be ask- ed by the trustee to present the concern in writing to the secretary of the board. The concern will then be placed on the agenda of the board's next meeting. The director will present a report and the person with the com- plaint will be given the oppor- tunity to make a presentation to the board. "The board's decision shall be final and binding on' all parties concerned," „con- cludes the policy. Director of education John Cochrane said the complaint form becomes "obsolete" with this new policy. Trustees Murray Mulvey and Frank Falconer wondered if the board would start receiving a lot of letters. "Do you think we might get a whole flood of letters?" ask- ed Mulvey. "The letter comes only after the trustee, principal of UNVEIL PLAQUE - Lieutenant Governor John Aird unveiled plaquesatthe municipal office and the rec centre during his stay in Exeter, Tuesday. Here he looks over the list of citizens -of -the -year on the plaque at the municipal office with Mayor Bruce Shaw. Authority gets grant The Ausable-Bayfield Con- servation Authority has been granted $517,158 to undertake various water management, conservation and -recreation projects this year, Natural Resources Minister Alan Pope announced this week. This is part of a total of $36 -million in provincial grants earmarked by the Qn- tario Ministry of Natural Resources to help finance projects being undertaken by the province's 39 conservation authorities this year. "Of the total amount, S1.5 -million is proposed for a federal/provincial mapping program to identify areas of potential flood damage 1 throughout the province," Pope said. The provincial grants, representing about 10 percent of the ministry's total budget, were based on proposals sub- mitted by the authorities last year. They represent about the same level of funding as the government provided in 1982. Pope noted that provincial spending must be carefully watched since the province, like everyone else, is suffer- ing as a result of the recession - its major tax -based revenue sources are declining and the federal government is reduc- ing its transfer payments.
