Sunday the Irish are back in

In the loss to Tavistock, all
Lucan scoring came in the
first two , periods. Captain
Paul Wraith finished off a
three-way passing effort wit1i
Jamie Shipley and Dave
Paton when the game was on-
ly a minute old and at 13:58 of
the first period Doug Latta
converted a. pass from Jeff

Near the end of the middle

teams improvement to "an
attitude improvement. They
know now that they can win."
He notes that their serve
reception is considerably
better.
Before their win Wingham
had trounced South Huron
15-2. It is significant that they
rallied back from this loss to,
win the second game so
decisively. In past they have
become frustrated with their
losses.
South Huron's juniors also
met with the skilled Stratford
Central team. Exeter lost
both games but they were by
no means trampled: The
scores were re>;pectable as
Stratford won 15-11 and 15-6:
The team's improvement is
encouraging to both coach
and players. Zankowski em-
phasizes that he does not play -
so much to win as to gain ex-
perience. He plays alt fifteen
of his players and keeps in
mind that this regular season
means nothng as all teams
qualify for the playoffs. He
hopes to have developed a
strong team with lots of depth
by play off time.
The team will- be able to
gain more experience at a
tournament in Wingham this
weekend. South Huron hosts
its Teague tournament on
Thursday, February 3. Ex-
eter will play Mitchell and
Seaforth. Zankowski believes
his team will be able to have
more wins over these
com t . rabl -skilled teams.
HE WON'T MAKE THE SAME
MISTAKE TWICE.

O'Rourke to coach region team
Terry O?Rourke, Exeter
resident and physical educa-
tion teacher at South Huron
District High School has been
named coach of the women's
South western Ontario
regional basketball team.
As coach of South Huron
senior girls basketball team
as well as both junior and
senior boys teams, since his
teaching career here began,
O'Rourke has had great ex-
perience coaching basketball.
During the summer he
coaches at Olympia Sports
Camp and the All Pro Basket-
ball Camp at Trent
University. •
His senior girls teams have
been very successful under
his coaching. Last year they
captured the Huron -Perth
championship. This year
after an undefeated season,
South Huron conceded the
championship to Stratford
Central. At W.O.S.A.A. the
teams play was very respec-
table, losing to Catholic Cen-
tral in the preliminary round.
O'Rourke graduated as
quite a sports hero from
Regina Mundi and the
University of Western On-
tario: He has always been in-
terested in basketball.
The coaching appointment
was made by the Ontario
Amateur Basketball Associa-
tion and was somewhat of a
surprise to O'Rourke. He had
applied for the position for the
- past several years and only
this year, not having submit-
ted an application, was he
chosen.
The team O'Rourke will
choose and coach is part of
the Junior Development Pro-
gram. In the spring -basket-
ball players, female 'and
under eighteen years of age
(there is a similar men's
team) will try out for the
Southwestern ,team. This
region has considerable
basketball talent. It includes
Sarnia and Kitchener and as
far north as Owen Sound.
The girls have a try -out

Juveniles lose
to Port Stanley
The Exeter juveniles
scored two early goals in Port
Stanley, Saturday, bur then
watched from the penalty box
as the home team came back
with seven straight to post a
7-2 triumph.
Four of the Port Stanley
goals came on the powerplay
as Exeter picked up 22
penalties, including a game
m isconduct to Dave Rowcliffe
on his first shift on the ice in
the first period.
Steve Batten shot Exeter in-
to a quick lead when he
blasted a shot into the top cor-
ner after taking a pass from
Eric Tadgell and then Brent
Dawson made it 2-0 when he
sailed the length of the ice to
connect on a nifty solo effort.
From that point, the game
degenerated into a slugfest,
with a steady stream of
players to the penalty box.
The juveniles host Parkhill
at the rec centre this Thurs-
day at 8:00 p.m.

a preliminary base for,
Canada's basketball teams.
O'Rourke is very much
looking forward to this
coaching experience. It is pro-
bable that several South
Huron athletes will try out for
the regional team, both men's
and, women's.
