T -A photo Legion, Auxiliary instal officers at joint meeting The Hensall Branch of the Canadian Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary held their joint meeting on Tuesday evening. The ladies' zone commander Mona Davis, Goderich, assisted by Thelma Wood installed the following officers: past president, Beatrice Uyl; president, Alie Neilands; 1st vice-president, Joan Beierling; 2nd vice- president, Mildred Chalmers; secre'airy, Donna Allan; treasurer • Colleen Ferris; sgt. at arms, Iva Reid; exective, Vera Smale and Marlene Zwaan. Zone commander Bob Chapman, Goderich, and zone officers installed the men's officers: president, Irvine Ferris; 1st vice- president, Peter Allan; treasurer, Murray Traquair; secretary, Red Stewart; sgt. at arms, Larry Uyl; service officer, Paul Neilands; chaplain, Rev. Stan McDonald; executive, Peter Zwaan, Frank Forrest, Charles Cooper, Grant McClinchey and Stan Kochan. Refreshments were served by the ladies. Service for Fiddlers The Hensall United Church morning service was held in the arena on June 21, so that the visitors to the Fiddler's Contest could easily attend and there was a good at- tendance of campers and church members. Rev. Stanley McDonald con- ducted the service and music was provided by vocalist and guitarist Betty Beer and vocalist Linda Hunter and Mrs. Joyce Pepper at the piano. Three songs were sung, "One Day At A Time", and the Lord's Prayer, by Betty and "Pass It On," by both. The service opened with a sing -song of old familiar hymns andthechildren's talk was about seeing the good in people. The message was on If I Should Die Before I Live". The quality of life is more important than the length. Christ gives quality to life and makes it have meaning, Life must be lived fully at any risk. Choose life and believe in the Resurrection. Flowers at the front were in loving memory of Mrs. Wilhelmina Jacques placed there by the family and others were in memory of Bert Shobrook of Londesboro placed there by Rev. Stan McDonald. Greeting wor- shippers as they arrived was Lloyd Ferguson and ushers were Jeff and Steve Corbett. Queensway News The staff and residents express their sincere thanks to volunteers who tran- sported them for bowling, Wanda McClinchey and Susan Campbell, and to the dance at Vanastra on Wed- nesday. Rev. Stuart Miner con- ducted the Church service on Tuesday. Visiting with Mrs. Irma Wilds were Marie and Henry Wilds, Kay Cockwill, Dianne Wilfred and Winnifred Wilds. Iva Ridley and Ilia Dunn visited with Vera Lammie, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs: Penhale. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Triebner and family and Annie Becker visited Mrs. Muriel Trieb- ner. Mary Zawatsky, Joyce Kendrick, Ruth Durand Liz and Sherri Varley visited Mrs. Kendrick. Mrs. Rozendal was visited by her husband Dawne, 011ie and Jean Rozendal, Dirk and Marie Green. Greta Lam- mie, Susan . Purdy and Chester Dunn visited with Vera Lammie. Mrs. Dora Hoggarth was visited by her husband and sister-in-law Mrs. Hoggarth. The ladies' high bowler was Mary Parlmer with a score of 122 and the male bowler high score was Ross Thomson, 116. Personals Mrs. Ross MacMillan of Waterloo spent last Friday visiting with her mother Mrs. Laird Mickle. A number of the "Three Links" Senior Citizens at- tended the seniors week at Huronview Monday. Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday when Mrs. Jean Carey of Cromarty spoke on the general assembly which she attended at Ottawa. The service next Sunday, June 28th , is the anniversary service at Cromarty, when Rev. W.D. Jarvis will be guest speaker. MacArthur picnic held Thirty-eight members of the MacArthur clan met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Bell for their an- nual reunion. Members attended from Toronto, Victoria B.C., Lon- don, Kitchener, Blenhiem, Exeter. Hensall. Zurich and Manitoulin Island. A very delicious smorgasbord dinner was en- joyed by all. Evert and Joan Van Sligtenhorst were in charge of sports and Bob and Marlene Bell were their hostesses. Next year's reunion will be at Robert Bell's with Dave and Mavis Hall Toron- to, and Bill and Donna Knights, Blenhiem on the committee. Contest chairman Wayne Reid said Monday, "Although we haven't checked the attendance totals I am confident we are quite a bit ahead of last year." Reid continued , "There were more than 120 camping units in the park and everybody seemed to have a good time. The step dancing competition Saturday af- ternoon was excellent with 59 contestants." In the open fiddling con- test, Raymond Shrier of Toronto was the overall champion for the second straieht year. Shrier received the Ward Allen Memorial trophy as the top competitor at the annual Hensall competion. The presentation was made by the late Ward Allen's niece Grace Bender. Runnersup in the open section were Frank Leahy, Teeswater and Kevin Reger, Elmwood. Gerry Smith of Exeter was the only local fiddler in action in this division and he was one of the four finalists. In the B division for contestants between the ages of 35 and 55 the winner was Willis Desjardine of Dash- wood. This was Desjardine's second championship in three years. Bill Irving of Mitchell was second followed by Andy Young of Dor- chester. The ladies section winners were Michelle Lubeneicki of Scarborough. Next were Kendra Woods, Fergus and Karen Reed of Sudbury. In the senior division for fiddlers over the age of 55 the champ was Tony Burtnik of Woodbridge followed by Reg Freer, Kerwood and Al Smith, Minden. Scott Woods of Fergus was the under 12 years winner. Next were Darren Walters, Bright and Francis Grinard, Ancaster. The senior class for fid- dlers over 70 years of age the winner was John Farrish of Listowel with Alf Renaud, Windsor and James McCrorie, St. Thomas next in line while John Crozman of London was the novelty champion. In step dancing Leanne Borko, Kitchener was the under nine years winner followed by twins Brendon and Denise Johnson of Stratford. The over 25 champs were C idys .. Hopper, London and Mary Currah, Brights Greve. Instal Kippen man as lodge's official Bro. Alex McBeath, Kippen, was installed as district deputy grand master of Huron District 8 on Sunday evening at an open installation at the Hensall Lodge rooms, attended by many district officers and members. Rev. Stan McDonald opened the evening by leading in prayer. Bro. Ernie Chip - chase, past district deputy and past commander of the encampment installed Bro. Alex. Bro. Jim Rose, Seaforth, was pianist for the evening and Bro. Cecil Pepper was marshal for the installation Bro. Alex spoke and introduced his family, his charming wife, Evelyn, his sons Ross, Kippen, and Douglas, Kincardine. D.D.G. H. Alex presented the travelling Gavel to Bro. John Moffatt, D.D.G. Warden. Past Grand Master Bro. John Broadfoot, installed Bro. John Moffatt as distirct deputy grand warden. Bro. Perc Campbell, P.D.D. installed Bro. Charles Hay as D.D. grand secretary. Following the installations retiring Bro. Percy Noels, Exeter, spoke addressing Bro. Alex. Bro. Robert Heywood played and sang two most appropriate numbers, which added much to the evening's programme. The meeting concluded with prayer by Rev. Stan McDonald and a social hour followed when refreshments were served. Campbell clan meet for picnic Around 85 attended the Campbell reunion held at' Lucan community park Sun- day with smorgasbord lunch. Greg and Launda and Fred and Susan Campbell were in charge of the sports. The new president for next year is John Rowcliffe and Bonnie Rowcliffe is the secretary.
