ANTIQUE MACHINE — During the winter months Cecil and Larry Desjardine of the Grand
Bend area overhauled a Massey Harris tractor which is about 40 years old. T -A photo
Restore
A tractor which is more
than 40 years of age has been
restored by a Grand Bend
area farmer and son com-
bination.
Cecil and Larry Desjar-
dine who farms on the B
Line of Stephen township
spent a lot of time last
winter in renovating a
Massey Harris 22 tractor.
Cecil Desjardine said. the
first tractor I ever owned
was a Massey Harris of this
brand, I've always wanted to
antique tractor
get another one. We had a
chance last fall to buy this
one.
Desjardine cdntinued, "It
was in pretty bad shape with
a lot of rust and the motor
was just about falling
apart."
It was used for a short
time by the Desjardine's
during spring seeding this
year, but, was sidelined with
a flat tire.
More than a month elaps-
ed before a proper tire could
be found in the United
States. It's a 11.2 by 34 tire
on a 10 inch rim.
The Massey Harris tractor
was believed to have been
purchased from the
McKnight brothers who
were agents in Exeter from
1936 to 1942.
The restored machine will
do small jobs around the
Desjardine farms and be a
reminder of the 1940's when
tractors were in their infan-
cy.

Stephen activities
are ready to roll
By LYNNE FARQUHAR
Registiation for swnmer
programs in Stephen
Township was held Friday
and it looks like we'll have a
good crew signed up for our
playground and pool
programs again this year.
For anyone who did not get
a chance to sign their
youngsters yet, you can still
do so at the Stephen township
office in Crediton weekdays
from 9-5.
For anyone wishing to
register for SPARK in Huron
Park or Crediton on the
Dashwood Playground, you
can do so on the first day of
the program with the
playground staff, but if you
wish to enroll your youngster
in the first session of swim
lessons, we'd appreciate you
doing so before Friday so
plans can be drawn up.
Registration for session 2
and 3 of lessons can be done
at the pool prior to the start
of those two sessions.
Coaches of minor ball
teams are asked to please
notify me when they are
using the McCurdy school
diamond. Because we have
an increased number of
teams and the main diamond
is fairly well booked, people
are requesting bookings at
the McCurdy diamond.
The diamond has
previously been on a first
come -first serve basis, but
due to increased use it has
become necessary to book it.
I would appreciate it if the
teams could give me a call
and let me know what night
and time they'll be using the
diamond
Parents will be notified by
phone this week as to the
times for their youngsters
lessons in the first session.
SPARK and Dashwood
playground youngsters will
be treated to a life-size
puppet show on Tuesday
July 7th called "The Kids on
the Block." The program is
sponsored by the Ministry
of Culture and Recreation
and deals with various han-
dicapped puppets and how
they adjust to their han-
dicaps.
The program is excellent
and very entertaining for
people of all ages. The show
will be held at the Dashwood
Community Centre on
Tuesday the 7 th of July at
10:OOa.m. and then will be at
the McCurdy school in Huron
Park at 1:30 p.m. Admission
is free and parents are
welcome to join the
youngsters.
Parents are reminded, if
they want their youngsters
enrolled in the first session of
swim lessons, they should
call or drop in to the Stephen
township office in Crediton
(234-6331) by Friday. If I'm
not in one of the secretaries
can take your registration.
Don't forget "Kids on the
Block" on July 7, Don't miss
it !

Lucan park
kept busy
Market Square Park was a
busy place Sunday when it
was in use by the Lucan
United Church and following
that by a family picnic.
Following a supper pot
luck luncheon children and
adults shared in several
relays, each child being
accompanied by an adult, or
a vice versa. The groups
then divided into
preschoolers, 6-7, 8-10, 10-13
and adults for various ac-
tivities and races ranging
from opening a mystery
parcel to relays, straight
races, crab walks, etc. Three
tugs of war were enjoyed at
different levels complete
with their cheering sections.
Volley ball was played by
different people for a couple
of hours and was still going
on strong at 4 p.m.
Linda and Dale Froats
assisted by members of the
Teens Class, Kelly and
Darrell Ibbitson, Tammi and
Terri McRoberts, Carolyn
Lankin and Linda Patterson
looked after the 13 and under
games and races, while
Sherry and Ted Lane and
Howard Wright looked after
the adult entertainment.
Many parents also helped
wherever required.
Supertendent Jim
Robertson had put in much
pre -work but was unable to
be present at the picnic.
Thanks to all who helped
make the 1981 picnic so
successful, members of the
Sunday School, Teachers
and Officers, the church, the
Committee of Stewards and
the U.C.W. for their
donations toward expenses.
Everyone had a great time.

rob ourselves. M the father

house, fathers have
privilege of establishing a
Christian heritage for their
children. Rather than
worrying about all the things
we have need of, we need to
seek God first, as when we
fulfill our part in seeking
God's rightousness and His
Kingdom, we then have an
assurance in God's word all
these needs will be given us.

to pay
your OHIP
miuins.
Ontario residents with low
incomes are entitled to assistance
in paying OHIP premiums. More
importantly, the amount has been
changed in the most recent Ontario
Budget.
If your income as a single person
is Tess than $8,200 or your
total income as a family of four, for
example, is below $14,000, you may
be eligible for assistance to pay all
or part of your premiums.
As always, pensioners or those
receiving social assistance continue
to receive OHIP coverage without
charge.
The best way to check
your eligibility is to contact your
local OHIP office. It's listed
in the Blue Pages of your telephone
directory under Government
Services.
Please ask because you may very
well qualify for OHIP assistance
today, even though you might not
have in the past.
