Greenway
is busy spot
By ANNE WALPER
GREENWAY
Congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Thoman (Anne
Steeper) who were married
at Greenway United Church
on Saturday. Many people
from here attended the
reception in the Parkhill
Community Centre at night.
It appears to be a busy
week for everyone this week
with church suppers on
Wednesday and Saturday
evenings and a birthday
celebration for Mrs. Gladys
Hodgins also on Saturday.
Jake Lagerwerf ac-
companied Carman Lovie on
a fishing trip to the
Manitoulin Island recently
recently.
The Rev. Harley Moore
told us in his sermon on
Sunday to, "Consider the
Lilies". In the Children's
gory he explained that you
harvest whatever you plant.
Following the service of
worship a Sunday School a
Congregational picnic was
held which was much en-
joyed by the children.
Smorgasbord lunch
followed.

The Kirkton Womens
Institute Annual Secret Pal
supper was held May 28 at
the Kirkton-Woodham
Community Centre.
Each member was greeted
by the committee in charge,
namely Jean Ratcliffe,
Marion Urquhart and Doris
Spence. President, Mrs.
Doris Denham pinned a lilac
corsage on each guest, as
they sampled the attractive
punch bowl.
The Womens Institute
grace was sung after which a
delicious smorgasbord
supper catered to by the
Prospect Hill Women's
Institute was enjoyed.
Evelyn Wiles gave an
account of the recent con-
ference which she attended
in Waterloo. Several games
were enjoyed after which
everyone found out who their
secret pal had been the past
year.
It was also announced that
members would be attending
Huron Country Playhouse on
August 26 to see "Music
Man."
Chained by
oversight
One of the exit doors at the
South Huron rec centre
auditorium w as chained
shut during a recent public
engagement, but it was cited
as "an oversight, and that's
all" by Mayor Bruce Shaw
this week.
He was replying to a reac-
tion from Councillor Tom
Humphreys who said the
exit sign above the door
should be covered if it was
going to be chained shut.
Shaw said the chain was
removed when the oversight
was brought to his attention
at the event. He indicated it
was the second time the
chains had been in place
while the centre was being
used for a public event.
The Mayor said that all
public buildings had chains
on their doors, for security
purposes including schools,
and they were removed
when the buildings were in
use.
Trial by
judge, jury
A Woodham couple,
Robert Scott Crawford, 23,
and Donna Lynn Kew, 21,
have elected trial by judge
and jury on charges of con-
spiring to traffic in
methamphetamines.
The couple made the elec-
tion in Stratford court Mon-
day and was remanded until
August 4 when a hearing
date will be set. Crawford
was remanded in custody
after being denied bail while
Kew was released on her
own recognizance.
The charges arose from a
raid by drug police in
Woodham a week ago in
which lab equipment and the
drug commonly known as
speed was seized. Street
value of the seizure was es-
timated by police at about
$160,000.
