The other division Sunday
night was won by Daylon
Thunder owned by Eugene
Forges of Walkerton and
driven by Bud Fritz.

divisions in Windsor Sunday
were $32,935 and $33.685,
respectively.

Centennials get soccer victory as
Vandewalle brothers score four
Brothers Paul and Jerry
Vandewalle scored four
goals to lead the Exeter
Centennials Senior Soccer
Team to a 6-1 victory over
Taxandria B in Arkona,
Sunday afternoon.
Even though it rained
during most of the game,
Exeter played one of its best
games of the season.
The game started with no
team really dominating.
Taxandria nearly took the
lead with some close chances
even to the extent of just
missing on a penalty shot.
Half way through the first
half Shawn Rotteau with a
low hard shot scored from
the left side to give Exeter
the lead 1-0.
It didn't take long for
Taxandria to tie the score.
Only a few minutes later a
long shot by a Taxandrian
forward just eluded the
hands of Exeter goalie Dave
Holmes. The half ended with
both teams tied at one each.
Exeter had to get out of
their defensive shell which
they played in the first half
and that's exactly what they
did by scoring four goals in
the first 20 minutes of the
second half.

Paul Vandewalle scored
his first goal and second for
the Centennials by scoring
from close in. Perhaps the
most beautiful goal of the
game and of the season too
was scored by Jerry Van-
dewalle.
Joe Carrie with a
beautifully placed kick from
his left half position sailed
the ball across in front of the
net where Jerry Vandewalle
hit the ball in mid air with his
left foot into the upper right
hand corner.
A minute later Paul
Vandewalle scored again
with a header from a ball
kicked by his brother Jerry.
Centre half Alfonse
Weersink finished off the
four good outbursts with a
long shot along the ground
that hit the lower left hand
corner.
Just before the end of the
game, Paul Vandewalle
found the mark again and his
third of the game by
redirecting a long pass from
right back Bill White into the
lower left hand corner.
The left side of the team,
fullback Mike Janju,half Joe
Laurie and forward Shawn
Rotteau played one of their
best games of the season.
Exeter vastly improved in
their passing by dominating
the second half with per-
fectly placed passes, some
good give and goes and just
excellent team play.
Exeter had an exhibition
game scheduled for Thur-
sday at Goderich but was
postponed until this Thur-
sday . night at 8 p.m. in
Goderich.
A breath of scandal too
often makes breei:y con-
versation.
This makes it a busy week
end for the Exeter club who
also has to travel to the
Norm Perry Soccer Field in
Sarnia at the corner of
Christina Street and High-
way 403. The game is Sunday
at 1:00 p.m. against Nairn.
Win or lose, Exeter plays
again at 5:3i, in the cham-
pionship or consolation
round. This is the first half of
the mid-season tournament
with the second half and
finals on July 5 in Arkona.
With eleven teams in the
tournament, you are bound
to see a good brand of soccer
so come out and cheer the
Centennials on.
Juveniles win
twice in WOAA
The Exeter juveniles
scored two victories this
week in the Western Ontario
Athletic Association.
Friday night they scored a
9-4 win over the Kincardine
midgets in Kincardine and
Sunday afternoon in
Dashwood they downed the
Kincardine juniors by a
score of 10-1
Three runs in each of the
first two innings propelled
the Exeter club to Friday's
victory in Kincardine.
Greg T'rout's single was
the only hit in the first inning
rally and singles from the
bats of Steve Pearce and
Greg Prout produced the se-
cond inning runs.
In the third frame. one
base blows from the bats of
Bruce Shaw. Steve Pearce
and Jeff Howe sent two
more Exeter runners across
the plate
The final run was scored in
the top of the ninth inning by •
Rick Lindenfield on a single
delivered by Bruce Shaw.

ning pitcher for Exeter

Whitecaps win
two in soccer
Exeter's "White Caps"
opened the atom soccer
season with a 5-0 win over
Taxandria and followed it up
with a 1-0 victory over
Ilderton.
Monday, the Whitecaps
met the undefeated Exeter 1
"Cosmos" and dropped their
first decision by a score of 1-
0. The game was excellently
played by both teams and
only some good goalkeeping
by Graham Arthur kept the
Whitecaps off the
scoresheet.
The only goal of the game
came from Robbie
McLelland in the first half.
Second half action was
almost completely in the
Cosmos half as the
Whitecaps tried desperately
to draw level.
Pressure increased when
Henri DeBruyn was injured
and had to leave the game
but stout defending by Tim
McAllister saved the day.
Cosmos star of the game was
Tim McAllister. Latest news
is that Henri will be OK and
back in action soon.
In squirt action Wed-
nesday was a vacant day for
the Gunners but the Strikers
took on Grand Bend and put
on a strong showing. The
addition of Steven Rankin
and Peter McAllister to the
team made quite a dif-
ference and the further
addition of Ryan Lindenfield
will make up a good team.
The end result was a 5-0
defeat but saw the Strikers
mount a dozen attacks
mainly led by Peter
McAllister and David
Negrijn with good support
from Jason Eiffert, Steven
Rankin, Jason Hern and
Crystal Bierling.
The defence was well
marshalled as usual by
Jason Coolman with able
assistance from Ian
McLean. In goal Jason Dix
showed improvement and
came up big with a save on a
penalty shot. In all, a good
1
performance with the star of
the game going to Peter
McAllister.
Also Wednesday, the
Squirts "Blizzard" travelled
to Lucan to meet the Lucan 2
squad and met with their
second defeat of the season
losing 6-0. Outstanding
goalkeeping by Jimmy
Ahrens kept the score out of
the double figures. Blizzard
Player of the game was
Edward Bradford.

the plate with a triple and
three singles in four trips to
the plate. Adding three hits
apiece were Cindy Down and
Lori Brand.
Patti Willis and Barb
Skinner shared pitching
duties giving up a total of six
hits.
In the opening game of the
London tourney, Kirkton
edged Fergus 6-5 with Barb
Skinner and Patti Willis
taking care of the pitching
chores.
The second game played in
a steady rain was won by St.
Pauls by a score of 12-1.
In Sunday action, Kirkton
downed Agincourt 4-2 before
losing to Brampton and
elimination.
Cindy Down was the top
Kirkton batter with five hits.
