Exeter church women
enjoy potluck, speaker
A potluck salad luncheon
started the June meeting of
Unit 1 of the Exeter UCW
and was much enjoyed.
Beryl Elgie was in charge
of the program which follow-
ed. She opened with a poem

Marion Dearing in-
troduced the speaker. Betty
Watson, who told of some of
the trials and joys of raising
a handicapped child.
She demonstrated several
pieces of equipment used by
these children, such as a
standing brace, a walker and
a cart which is propelled by
the child by pushing the
wheels.
Celia Thomson thanked
the speaker.Cora Miner con-
ducted the devotions with
Ruth Ellwood reading the

Cora said many Christians
could learn the art of
meditation from the
Buddhists. We spend more
time visiting than in
devotions and seldom take
time to see what the Bible
means to -day or to find out
what God's will is.
She told the story of the
boy who was rewarded for
helping a neighbour with a
gift of 13 eggs and a setting
hen. This gift provided an
opportunity for the boy who
went on raising more and
more chickens and making
this his life's work.
Many get discouraged and
wonder what they can do.
Some suggestions were
phone calls. visits, baby sit
and prayer for the han-
dicapped and those who look
after them.
Dorothy Bullock accom-
panied by Sharon Kirkby
sang three solos.
Marilyn Johnson con-
ducted the business and
reminded us that our next
meeting will be September
10 and the next General
meeting September 21.
It was also announced that
anyone wishing to attend the
one day session at Alma
College August 18 should
contact Marion Dearing or
Audrey McRoberts.
Clandeboye
CLANDEBOYE
Clandeboye Women's
Institute sponsored a bus
trip Wednesday to the
Agriculture Museum at
Milton and a boat cruise
around the Toronto harbour
and islands.
Dinner was enjoyed at the
Park Place and for those
who couldn't eat pork, Old
Ed's and Ed's Warehouse,
was nearby. Velma Hardy.
convened the trip and Pete
McNaughton was the bus
driver. Despite the
changeable weather.
everyone had a good time.
There were 67 in atten-
dance at a special Thompson
family reunion held Sunday
at the Centralia Community
Centre to honour Mrs. Min-
nie Barnes of Westminster,
B.C. on her 80th birthday.
Mrs. Barnes accompanied
by her daughters, Marjorie,
Mrs. Al Langton, of West-
minster, B.C. and Elaine,
Mrs. Chas Irving. Victoria,
arrived Saturday evening to
spend sometime visiting
with relatives in the area.
Mrs. Barnes brothers and
sisters and spouses, are hav-
ing a birthday dinner at the
3A's Restaurant, Monday
evening.
Jean and Pat Hodgins
attended the Morley reunion
at Seaforth Park. Saturday.
Several from this area
attended the estate fur-
nishings sale of the late Miss
Agnes Northgraves held at
Storey Auction, London,
Monday evening.
During the service at
Clandeboye United Church,
Sunday Rev. Keith Brown,
baptized Christina Elena, in-
fant daughter of Irene and
Gary Donaldson.
Mr.and Mrs. John Simpson
and Paul, Kirkton was Sun-
day evening visitors with
Mrs. Isobel Simpson.
Mrs. Elizabeth Knight,
Rodney and Mr. and Mrs.

ladies meet

Centralia U.C.W. met in
the school room of the
church May 28 with a good
attendance. They had the
men as guests.
The meeting opened with
President Glena Tripp
welcoming all. The minutes
were read and approved
and treasurer's report given.
Freda Rollings reported on
the Easter lilies to the shuts
ins. Margaret Cook gave a
report on the Presbyterial in
Stratford.
The next meeting will be a
pot luck dinner at Mrs.
Marion Penwarden's cottage
at Grand Bend. The ladies
are to meet at the
church at 6 pra. We are to
collect I.G.A. tapes as well
as Zehrs. Also stamps.
The Programme com-
mittee -Marian McCurdy,
Edith Lobb, Olive Essery,
Marion Deline, Edith Gill.
Margaret Cook took over.
Olive Essery read a poem.
Spring Time Again.
Edith Lobb read the
Scripture: A poem Gar-
deners Creed was read by
Margaret Cook. A duet was
sung by Olive Essery and
Marion Deline accompanied
by Edith Gill at the piano.
Marion McCurdy read a
poem, Know what is nice
about moms.
Edith Lobb introduced
Walter Fydenchuk who
showed his slides on Russia
when he visited his cousins
last year. They were very
much enjoyed. Marion
McCurdy thanked him.
Lunch was served by
committee in charge.

graduated June 8 from the
University of Western On-
tario, with the degree of
Bachelor of laws. Von is a
former South Huron District
High School graduate. He
has taken an articling posi-
tion with the firm of Stratton,
Barenberg and Von Drunen
of Stratford.
