TEMPLEMAN STAFFA 4-H Homemaking club leaders and members provided the program for the May meeting of the Staffa Women's Institute, held in the Township hall on Wed- nesday May 27 at 8:15 p.m. President, Mrs. John Miller presided, opening with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart collect. Mrs. George Vivian chaired the program, which explained to the Institute members what the 4-H clubs had learned in their last project "Which came first the chicken or the egg?" Staffa 1 had set up an Come long way, baby The topic of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture's June meeting will be "You've Come a Long Way, Baby", Miss Gay Stewart, a lawyer will speak on the changes in legal status of farm women. The meeting will take place, Thursday June 4, 8:30 p.m. at the Turnberry Central School, just east of Wingham on highway 86. Some of these recent changes in areas such as property rights have a major impact on the dissolution or division of a farm operation and every farm family should understand the current situation. Stan McDonald, Mrs. Grace Drummand and Mrs. Audrey Christie were delegates from Huron -Perth Presbytery at the London Conference held in Park St. United Church Chatham. Staffa 2 had an exhibit on the Stock Pot set up and Nancy Scott and Sheila Riley told how to prepare a stock pot and how to clarify your stock. Mrs. Charles Douglas conducted a quiz on eggs. Three girls from Staffa 2 club, Lori McBride, Kathy Barnes and Tammy Parsons demonstrated how eggs would hold a liquid together. RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP — Kathryn Cook, daughter of Douglas and Patricia Cook of Hensall, has been awarded a scholarship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of the Government of Canada for further studies towards her master's degree in English. She is a graduate of South Huron District High School and an honour graduate in English from the University of Victoria, and a graduate in Education from the University of Toronto. Mrs. Anthony Segeren conducted a contest on eggs which gave everyone good information. Mrs. John Templeman gave a report on the District Annual held recently in St. Marys and spoke on the theme, and each shall seek the common weal, the good of all mankind. During business, several thank you cards were read and a donation was made to the Perth County Childrens Aid for their summer camp. Mrs. Lloyd Miller and Mrs. John Templeman are a committee to plan a theatre party. Mrs. Dalton Smale and Mrs. Norman Harburn are in charge of the bus trip which is planned for June 11, leaving Staffa at 8 a.m. There were 13 members and 16 visitors present. Weekend guests with Jean Carey were Mrs. Trudy Billard, her daughter Kathy and a friend, all of Georgetown, also Mrs. Helen Cowie, Mississauga. Sunday morning, children of the Sunday School shared their talents with others, and displayed rug -hooking, pottery -making, weaving, crossword and coloring books. Mr. Ken Miller has sold his farm to Bruce Miller and has purchased a home just south of Grand Bend, moving this past week.
