Report over S7,000 from dancer Ride
The executive and team
captains attended a meeting
of the Lucan Branch of the
Canadian Cancer Society,
held at the home of Al and
Marg Cocquyt, Edgewood.
President Len Masien
reported a total of ;7,759.15
to date, with a few more
pledges to come in for the
Family Ride. This
represents a slight increase
over last year's campaign.
The Executive thanks
everyone who participated in
any way in making this 1981
campaign so successful. He
gives much credit to the
wonderful influence of Terry
Fox.
Mr. Maslen had attended,a
Unit Board - of Directors
meeting at Thameswood
Lodge, where many subjects
came under discussion, not
only regarding the cam-
paign, but also Service to
Patients, in particular the
Mastectomy Visiting Ser -
vice.
The two doctors on the
Unit executive would like the
visitors, Marg Cocquyt and
Audrey Harloff, to see the
patients prior to their
surgery and hopefully this
will become a fact.
The beginnings of the
Lucan Branch, following
mini -canvasses by Institute
members, was given by Len
Maslen. The first president
when the Branch was
organized in 1957, was M.H.
Hodgins, Vice-president
Marion Sovereign,
secretary, Mary Prest.
The contributions must
have been sent directly to the
unit as no treasurer was
mentioned in the year of
organization. It was
suggested that something
special be organized for 1982
to celebrate the 25th an-
niversary of the Branch.

United Church
Frank and Iola Goring,
assisted by Bonnie and Carol
Joyce welcomed wor-
shippers as they arrived for
morning service at Lucan
United Church, Sunday.
As he continued his series
on the Parables, Rev. Brown
commented, "The parable of
the Good Samaritan
illustrates the hurting needy
world in which we live
today." Mary are victims of
the ravages of war and
famine. Some have been
robbed by parental failure,
or by their enslavement to
harmful habits.
Some are hurt by false
teachings or by the un-
christlike actions of so-called
Christians. The parable
illustrates also our varied
responses to such needs,
whether indifference and
selfish concern, or that
which Christ commended to
His hearers - compassion
which reaches out to help.
Next Sunday, the Lucan
congregation celebrates its
119th anniversary with Rev.
Wes Oake of King St United
Church as guest speaker.
The U.C.W. will serve
refreshments at a social
hour following the service.
All women are cordially
invited to the General United
Church Women's meeting
Tuesday June 9, when Rev
Glen Wright of White Oaks
Community of Faith United
Church is the guest.
Clean up day at
Presbytery Camp Kee -Mo -
Kee is scheduled for this
Saturday. Anyone who could
help is asked to call Bob at
4261 or Wes at 4357.
Some finished pictures are
mounted on wood, while
some are framed in shadow
box frames. After Mrs.
Kwasnicki made the but-
terfly paper tole picture,
several paper tole pictures
were given out.
One picture was given to
the lady with the fewest
items in her purse. Second
went to the lady who had
kissed her husband the most
times that day. Third was
given to a lady who' had a
birthday that day. Last was
presented to the guest
speaker, Mrs. JanaLyn
Rutledge, from Toronto.
Mrs. Joan Cochrane,
playing her guitar, sang
"Best of all You Promised to
see me through", followed
with "Come to the Waters."
Mrs. Rutledge spoke about
how we are chosen of God to
be His children. When we
accept Christ as our Saviour,
we can come directly to the
Father for our needs. God
created us to have us for His
companions. We can reject
Him, and His greatest gift,
Jesus Christ, while God still
loves us. John 17:24 teus us
Jesus wants God's children
to be with Him.
Mrs. Joan Cochrane sang
"You and Me Together".
Mrs. June Hdnry, the W.A.
'he minutes of the meetings.
If You would like to get into
volunteer work, please call
Mr. Maslen at 227-855.There
are several meetings in
February, March and April
and one in May, but the rest
of the year there are seldom
any meetings.
Campaign chairman,
Bruce Maslen, also voiced
his thanks to all and par-
ticularly the Team Captains
operated in filling in the
forms, getting the idts back,
etc.
Len Maslesn voiced the
thanks of the executive to the
host and hostess and all en-
joyed a "pot luck" supper.

leader, thanked all those who
helped for the evening, and
all those who came, before
closing the meeting.
Sunday morning service
Doug Butler sang for the
morning service "Make Me
an Instrument of Love". Rev
Ray Brewster ministered
from Rev. 3:7-13, concerning
God's open and closed doors,
that govern our lives.
Christ has the authority to
open and close doors in our
lives, as our lives are not our
own. God speaks to us in a
still small voice, arranging
circumstances before us,
opening doors of opportunity
for us when we are tuned to
God's direction.
Rev. Ray Brewster led the
evening service. Doug Butler
sang from Romans 8:38,
"We Are Persuaded."
Gary Schlegel spoke from
Psalm 8:3-4 on how God has
created the atmosphere and
the earth so complex and
great, while still caring for
min. When man first sinned
he lost close fellowship with
God, and was born with a sin
nature. Although God could
have crushed sinful man, He
sent His Son to die for him.
God wants the sinful person
to be reconciled to Him. For
