Cowgirls
win three
The Crediton Cowgirls
scored three consecutive
victories this week in dis-
trict ladies fastball play.
The Crediton club edged
Denfield 9-8 and Lucan 7-6
and trounced Lobo 26-3.
The Cowgirls will be in ac-
tion three times this coming
week. Thursday night they
travel to Poplar Hill, Sunday
they are at the same park to
meet Lobo and Monday night
they are at home in
Crediton.
Singles by Kate Steeper
and Sandy O'Neill and a
home run from the bat of
Brenda Wilds sent five
Crediton runs home in the
second inning of the win over
Denfield.
Merna Scott and Tammy
Regier scored in the third
frame without the aid of a
hit and a single was added by
Deb Lord.
The winning runs were
produced in the ninth inning
when Carol Stuart singled
and Merna Scott tripled.
Merna Scott was the win-
ning pitcher.
A single by Deb Lord sent
Sandy O'Neill and Tammy
Regier around with the win-
ning runs in the seventh as
the Cowgirls edged Lucan 7-
6.
Brenda Wilds and Deb
Lord shared pitching duties
for the Cowgirls.
A 10 run outburst in the
third inning was enough to
power the Cowgirls to Mon-
day's win over Lobo by 26-3.
Michelle Vandergunst,
Wilma Lagerwerf, Sandy
O'Neill and Deb Lord provid-
ed big hits for the early
game uprising Brenda
Wilds started the game off
by a single and Deb Lord
provided a point by hitting a
home run.
In the fourth and fifth fin-
ings, a total of 15 runs cross-
ed the plate. Kate Steeper
slashed a home run and
other hits were contributed
by Deb Lord, Merna Scott,
Sandy O'Neill, Shelley
Weber, Tammy Regier and
Michelle Vandergunst.

Centennials lose to Taxandria
A good game of soccer was
played last Sunday afternoon
at Arkona, but the Exeter
Centennial soccer team was
. on the short end of a 4-1
score against the Taxandria
Falcons.
The first half saw some
good defensive work with
both teams only getting long
shots on the opposing goal.
Centennial players John
Rasenberg, Bill White and
Joe Laurie played well in
their fullback positions with
centre half Alfons Weersink
doing a spectacular job

shadowing Taxandria's most
dangerous player Mike
Kline. Gerald Weersink and
Brad Clausius also turned in
some good defensive and
offensive efforts respective-
ly.
Both first and second str-
ing goalies for Exeter
couldn't be at the game so
Dave Holmes who normally
plays fullback played goal
and played it well. Maybe it
was his experience of play-
ing goal for the Mitchell
Hawks hockey team.
With the score 0-0 at the
start of the second half Tax-
andria went right to the at-
tack scoring two quick goals.
Shortly after Taxandria's
second goal Paul Vandewal
was tripped up in Taxan-
dria's penalty area. As a
result Exeter was awarded a
penalty shot.
John Rasenberg was
selected to take the shot and
made good on it by putting it
in the bottom left hand cor-
ner. The rest of the game
was fairly even but Taxan-
dria had the better shooters
and scored two more goals
to make the final score 4-1 in
favour of Taxandria.
With four games played
already this year, Exeter
has only managed one point,
a tie with Lucan. Hopefully
things will turn around and
Exeter will start winning.
Exeter has good personnel
but can't totally put it.
together at game time.
Next game is at home at
the Canner's field Sunday
afternoon at 4:00 against
West Williams. Come out
and support the Exeter
Centennials.
