Honor newlyweds at Shipka party; ball underway

A social evening was held
May 19 at Shipka Communi-
ty Centre in honor of Roger
and Belle Ratz, who were
recently married.
With around 40 in atten-
dance, the group played
progressive euchre in the
social time.
Winners were ladies high -
Mary Moser; ladies low -
Belle Ratz, men's high -
Jack Pickering; men's low -
Lorne Dietrich.
Members of Shipka com-
munity presented the young
couple with a set of folding
chairs.
Personals
Mrs. Annie Zielman and
Ruth attended a mis-
cellaneous bridal shower,
Thursday evening, in the
auditorium of Zurich Men-
nonite Church, for Mary
Ellen Steckle, bride elect of
mid June.
Around 50 were in atten-
dance. Hostesses were four
aunts of the bride -elect,
Mrs. Carol Steckle, Mrs.
Betty Steckle, Mrs. Mary
Ellen IGingerich and Mrs.
Jean Gingerich.
Diane Steckle and Mary
Ellen Gingerich read bridal
poems.
Assisting the bride open-
ing gifts were mothers of
the bridal couple, Annie
Zielman and Shirley Steckle.
Suzanne and Otto Plein,
Chris and Melissa, of
Elmira, visited during the
weekend with Suzanne's
parents, Ferman and Leota
Snyder.
Ray and Willa Wuerth, of
Exeter visited Sunday even-
ing with John and Linda
Wuerth and baby Rebecca.
Monday visitors with the
Wuerth's were Linda's
cousin, Bill Hern, from Van-
couver, B.C., and her
mother Mrs. Robert Hern of
Woodham.
Pvt. Cindy Desjardine,
stationed at Westwln, Win-
nipeg with Canadian Armed
Forces, and her girl friend
Kelly, from Vancouver B.C.
are here visiting on a 10 day
holiday with Cindy's parents
and brother, Willis, Ella and
Ray Desjardine and other
relatives.
An organization meeting
has been held In Shipka Com-
munity Centre for softball
and T -ball games. Twenty-
four signed up for T -ball and
16 for softball. The baseball
games will be played at
Stephen Central school.
The T -ball group have
formed a Tri -County league

ing along well at St. Joseph's
hospital, London following
her broken leg accident. Re-
cent visitors with her were
her grandmother, Mrs. Fred
Hoffman, and an aunt, Mrs.
Janet Navarre, of Barryton,
Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Smith,
of Rodney Mich. and Mrs.
Madeline Bacon, of Saginaw
area, visited a couple days
here at their niece's home,
Lucille and Harold Vincent,
Lori and Michael. These
visitors also called at the
hospital to see Michelle.
