PETER MARTIN CREDITON Tuesday evening the ladies of the Crediton Womens Institute met in the town hall. It was the annual Grandmothers meeting and everyone was to bring a Grandmother with them. The meeting was opened with the Ode and collect. President Mrs. Dave Cottel welcomed the Grand- mothers and fellow Institute members. The roll call was answered by telling something I buy. that my Grandmother made at home. and introducing their guest. Minutes were read and the treasurer's report was given. Mrs. Dave Cottel read a poem about Grandmothers and Mrs. Bruce Shapton read a poem about Grand- parents. Mrs. Glenn Hodgins gave her report on the of- ficers convention she attend- ed in Waterloo the beginning of May. Mrs. Dave Cottel then turned the meeting over to Mrs. Don Finkbeiner who. opened the program with a song. Everyone then put on their old hat which they had brought with them. Prizes were given to the ladies with the silliest hat. the most original. the oldest. the one with the most feathers ,and flowers. the best garden hat and the best kitchen hat. Mrs. Russell Brown read a poem and Mrs. Jean Haist read the motto. A priceless possession is a heritage. Mrs. Gwen Whilsmith, showed slides and spoke on early life in Huron County. Mrs. Dolores Shapton and Mrs. Maxine Sereda did a skit on a hospital rummage sale. Lunch was served by Lois Hodgins. Louise Wein, Cora Wein. Jean Neil. Jane Dearing. Lyla Hendrick and Jo Gielen United Church Sunday morning. Zion United Church held their 130th anniversary sevice at 10 p.m. Rev Brian Elder conducted the service of worship and Rev Douglas S. Warren gave the message entitled. "The Mighty Rock'•. The church choir gave a special number '•f) Zion Haste" Philip Elder. infant son of Rev and Mrs. Brian Elder was baptised by Rev. Warren. Wilbert Lewis was able to return home from Strathroy Hospital last Wednesday. Janice McKay formerly, of Ailsa Craig was soloist at the Foden-Prest wedding, Saturday. Several relatives and friends from Toronto, Kit- chener and Niagara at- tended the Foden-Prest wedding Saturday. Rae Lewis visited over the weekend at Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Lewis A few families from the Brinsley United Church attended the anniversary at Ailsa Craig United Church, Sunday. A successful auction sale was held at McGillivray Central School Saturday even if the attendance was small ple by the United Church Women. Woodham ladies have population skit By MISS *AN COP1LAND The Woodham U.C.W. meeting was held in the church basement May 12 with an attendance of 26. Group one had charge with June Robinson opening the meeting with a call to worship. The theme was Mothers of the Bible. Scripture readings were read by Mrs. Rev. King and Mrs. Ross McCurdy. A hymn "This is the day for praising" was sung followed by the meditation and prayer given by June Robinson. Readings, Mothers of the Bible was taken by several members. ,Heaven for Mothers, was read by Pearl Brine. • June Robinson gave a tribute to Mothers closing with the hymn Faith of our Fathers. The study book was taken by Betsy Parkinson. "Our Partners speak to us". A skit "The great parade" based on the population of the world was presented by Mrs. Ordell Webber, Lucille McCurdy and Betsy Parkin- son. Mary Gartenburg gave an account on Christian Development. Business was conducted by the president Marian Ja- ques, Minutes, as roll call, and correspondence were read. A display is to be set up at the Kirkton Fair. A delegate is to go to Alma College in August. Audrey Baker gave her treasurer's "eport with -a substantial balance on hand. Personals Mrs, Ethel Walker, Caledonia spent the weekend with Miss Jean Copeland and also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Copeland and girls. The community was shocked to hear of the tragic death in a motor accident of Charlie Webb and of the in- juries sustained to Deborah. Deborah remains in hospital in Kitchener and our prayers are with her in her grief and for a complete recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Don Brine, Cheryl and Daryl spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Jim McNaughton, John, Laurie and Ellen of Manitoulin Island. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Copeland and Miss Jean Copeland attended the 80th birthday party Sunday for Mrs. Blanche Copeland of London held at the home of ber son, Murray at Delaware.
