Students of the year named Friday
at SHDHS
South Huron District High
School will be announcing
their student of the year
awards this Friday at the
school's annual formal.
Students from grades 11,
12 and 13 have nominated six
young ladies and six young
men who they believe have
contributed to the student
life at the school.
The change from the queen
competition to the student of
the year awards was made
last year to better reflect the
contributions of students,
both male and female to
school life.
The dance with a 'French
Cafe' theme will be held at
the South Huron Rec Centre
with the awards an-
nouncement made at 12
o'clock midnight.

Kathy Penhale is 18 years
old and presently in grade
13. She is the daughter of
Thomas and Marian Penhale
of Sanders St. Exeter. She
was secretary of the 1980-81
student council and a Home
Room Rep. for four years.
Kathy has also contributed
to theatre productions dur-
ing her years at South
Huron. She also has been in-
volved with community ser-
vices such as Candy Striping
at South Huron Hospital.
Kathy represents the Stu-
dent Council.

Ann Marie Brand
representing Intramurals is
18 years old and in grade 13.
She is the daughter of Betty
and Hank Brand. RR 1 Ex-
eter. She has been an asset
to the school through her
position on the Student Coun-
cil as Intramural Chairper-
son. Ann Marie also takes an
interest in sports such as
field hockey and gym-
nastics. She teaches gym-
nastics on Saturdays for the
Exeter Recreation Depart-
ment, also.

Ilona Schaufler from
Theatre Arts is 19 years old
and in grade 13. She is the
daughter of Harry and Sybil!
Schaufler Andrew St. Ex-
eter. During her high school
years, she has been a
member of the debating
team, yearbook and the
newspaper. Her most
recognizable contribution
has been in Theatre perfor-
mances for the last three
years including one of the
lead roles in the school play
"West Side Story."
Liz Scott from Student
Council attends grade 13 and
is 19 years of age. She is the
daughter of Jim and Eleanor
Scott RR 1 Centralia. She
was intramural chairperson
for the Student Executive in
1979-80. Presently she is the
social convener for the
current Student Council. Her
other involvements include
field hockey,.track and gym-
nastics. She teaches gym-
nastics Saturdays for the
Exeter Recreation Depart-
ment.

Lisa Stretton representing
athletics is 19 years old and
in grade 13. She is the
daughter of Herb and Norma
Stretton, Hensall. Lisa has
been actively involved in
sports at South Huron as
track and field, basketball,
volleyball and badminton,
This year Lisa was a com-
petitor in OFSSA badmin-
ton in Kapuskasing. She was
on this year's intramural
committee as well.

Shiela Eisenschink of the
yearbook staff is presently
in grade 12 and is 18 years of
age. She is the daughter of
Henry and Arlette
Eisenschink, RR 1
Hay.Shiela is the editor of
the 1980-81 yearbook and has
been involved in Yearbook
for several years. She has
been president of YACMR
(Youth Across Canada with
the Mentally Retarded) for
two years. Shiela's part-time
job at a group home for
adults in Exeter keeps her
busy also. She has also con-
tributed to school life
through her participation in
theatre productions, spanish
club and by being a home
room rep.

Doug Hoffman from
athletics is 19 years of age
and is in grade 13. Doug is
the sone of Claire and
Winona Hoffman Huron
Street Exeter. Throughout
his five years at South Huron
Doug has been involved in
several sports. He has been
a member of the football,
basketball, soccer and bad-
minton teams. This year,
Doug was an OFSSA bad-
minton competitor. He has
been involved with the in -
tramural committee and is a
member of the Reach for the
Top Team.

Steve Pearce also from
athletics is 18 years old and
in grade 13. He is the son of
Wayne and Nancy Pearce,
Main Street - Exeter. Steve
has contributed to South
Huron through his participa-
tion in many sports. He has
been involved in basketball,
badminton, football, golf and
track and field. Steve was a
competitor in OFSAA track
and field last year placing
second in Javelin.

Doug Raymond of the
school's Student Council is
19 years old and in grade 13.
He is the son of Peter and
Sally -Lou Raymond. Albert
Street Exeter. He is presi-
dent of the student council as
well as being involved in
facets of school life. He par-
ticii)ates in theatre produc-
tions, intramurals and
several sports such as
wrestling, tra—Cr 'Tootball'
and basketball.

Dave Bell another
athletics enthusiast is in
grade 13 and is 18 years of
age. He is the son of Jim
and Elizabetn Bell of
Edward Street Exeter.
During his five years at
South Huron, he has been in-
volved in football, basket-
ball, badminton and the
track and field teams. He
also was part of the in-
tramural committee this
year.

Doug Brooks an all-around
student attends grade 13 and
is 19 years old. He is the son
of Ray and Pat Brooks of
Newmarket. Doug has been
a member of the school
soccer team and football
team. He is also a very ac-
tive member of the in-
tramural program. Doug has
been involved in theatre
productions as well.

Wayne Parsons from
athletics is 18 years old and
in grade 13. He is the son of
Gerry and Marlene Parsons,
Main Street Exeter He has
been recognized for his con-
tribution to such activities
as the badminton, football,
golf and basketball teams.
Wayne has also been in-
volved with school threatre
productions and the in-
tramural committee.
