Pupils from the Lucan
School Grades Kindergarten
to three enjoyed the
Maycourt Marionettes
production of "Peter Pan" at
Althouse College in London
on Wednesday, May 13. It
would have been quite an
experience to watch the
expressions on their faces
during the performance.
Fifty students from the
school joined a choir of 1100
at Alumni Hall, U.W.O.,
Wednesday evening for the
Annual Spring Concert.
Choirs and orchestras from
all of Middlesex elementary
and secondary schools
participated, providing an
enjoyable evening for all
music lovers.
Two Canadian flags were
presented in the school
during Education Week,
when the Granton Women's
Institute placed one in
Dorothy Nott's Grade 3 room
in the Lucan building and the
Lucan Institute the other in
Donna Walker's Grade 3-4
room at Biddulph. Thanks to
all members of these two
fine Institute Branches.
Three Grade 8 girls, who
sent a joint entry to the
Middlesex County Historical
Competition, have had their
project chosen for the
London & Middlesex,
Historical Society com-
petition. The three students
are Jennifer MacDonald,
Kim Blay and Lezlie Hinge.
They wrote the words and
music for a song about
Biddulph township and have
been invited to St. George's
School in London on June 2nd
for the presentation of
awards.
Tabatha Froats
illustration was chosen by
the Free Press for their
"Creative Youth" feature
magazine section last week.
Her illustration was on the
"Hollandia Gardens" and
Tabatha, along with the
other students in Miss
Walker's grade 3-4 class
received certificates of
recognition for their entries.
Plans are progressing for
the creative playground
equipment at the Lucan
Building and hopefully it will
be completed this spring.
Volunteer help will be
welcome when the con-
struction commences, both
in labor and materials.
United
Church
The first pre-aervice
Hymn Sing sponsored by the
Outreach Committee was
enjoyed by the early comers
on Sunday morning at Lucan
United Church. This will
continue the third Sunday of
each month.
"The Parable of the
Barren Fig Tree" was the
theme of Rev. Keith Brown's
message based on Isaiah 5:1-
7 and Luke 12:1-2. Mr. Brown
told of the efforts of the
keepers in each case to
produce good fruit and
pointed out that the nation of
Israel was likened to these
vineyards, refusing to bring
forth good fruit as a revealer
of God's word. Wes Stanley
and Bernice Lockyer welco-
med members and friends
to the service.
Upcoming
Tonight, Wednesday the
Dorcas Unit will meet briefly
. from 7:45 to 8:30 for a plant
sale and business, and will
join the Friendship Unit for
their meeting when Beth
Smith and Karen Kwasnicki
will speak on "Raising the
Disabled Child." All ladies
are invited.
Don't forget the Couples
Club Garage Sale at 129 Main
Street on Saturday. Call 227-
4879 for "pick-up."
Saturday, leaving Lucan
United Church at 9 a.m. all
Churches in Clandeboye,
Granton and Lucan combine
in the Bible Society Walk-a-
thon for "Bibles for Africa".
Let's fill our pledge sheets,
get more from Mr. Robert-
son and walk to help spread
the story of God's love. The
objective is 81,500.
Sunday the service will be
in charge of the Mission and
Service Committee with
Rev. Jim Somerville telling
of the work in Haiti, one of
the Live Love projects of
both congregations. Come
and hear "first-hand" his
interesting story.
