IRVIN RADER Tuesday, May 5, Dashwood Women's Institute held the Grand- mother's meeting with con- veners, Mrs. Harry Hoff- man, Mrs. Louella Tiernan, Mrs. Greta Schade and Mrs. Harvey Beierling in charge of a pot luck supper. Other guests were the 4-H girls and several grandchildren. Following supper several prizes were awarded. For lucky plates, Mrs. Sid Baker and Kathy Anne Keller; most jewelry, Mrs. Lloyd Rader; no jewelry, Mrs. Thelma Beierling; closest birthday, Mrs. Harold Schroeder. A program followed with Mrs. Greta Schade chairlady. All joined in singing "Faith of our Grandmas". Dan Weigand read a scrip- ture reading and played two piano solos. Two numbers were sung by Kim Hoffman, cShaciy Qet Antiques, collector's plates, cane, reed, and sea grass. Pine reproduc- tions, furniture restoration. Roll call was answered by telling how you would like to be remembered if you were a grandmother. Mrs. Harvey Beierling discussed the mot- to, "What we make of our homes is more important than what they are made of. The 4-H girls had an exhibit "Tools of the Trade" Pauline Dietrich explained, assisted by Lori Anne Boogemans. They also had a fashion show. Kathy Schade and Rachel Mellecke receiv- ed county honours at achievement day and Judith Mellecke provincial honours. Bunco was played with Mrs. Letta Taylor high and Mrs. Mervyn Tieman low. Mrs. Eben. Weigand con- ducted a brief business meeting. Delegates to the district annual are Mrs. Eben Weigand, Mrs. Gordon Elepder., Mrs. Valentine `ecker and Mrs. Harold Arron. The Institute' will' be guests of Grand 'Bend Institute at a picnic June 18. Take along a lawn chair. The June meeting will be the Tweedsmuir History corn- mittee. Dashwood Beavers have been very busy. They went to Irvin Rader's home and Mary showed the interested groups how maple syrup was made and how it tasted. The Beavers say thank you for showing us. For Easter they made Easter baskets from egg cartons and painted eggs. They also played games and sang songs. The Spring project was very interesting. Each Beaver brought something or told a story or sang a song about spring. Last week the leaders had a big surprise for the Beavers. Rusty (Charlene Finkbeiner) had a baby boy. The Beavers all brought a little extra money and gave the new baby Beaver a stuff- ed beaver. Welcome Jason Allan Finkbeiner from all. There are a lot of tours and outings planned now that it is warm weather. . Zion missionary league The quarterly. meeting of Zion Luther'''an church Lutheran Women's 4 Missionary League was held April 28. Mrs. Delmar Miller had opening devotions followed by the topic "The impor- tance of being a disciple" by Pastor Mellecke. The business followed at which time the "Mites" were dedicated. Mrs. Charles Martene and Mrs. Maggie Nadiger served lunch. Eleven ladies attended the Mitchell Zone Spring Rally May 4. The theme "Chosen to share God's Love". Guest speaker was Pastor David Elseroad, who was chosen to share God's love with the people in Quebec atthe Gatineau mission. Personals Mrs. Frieda Keller spent the weekend in London with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Keller and family and attended Mindy's birthday. Sunday, she attended confirmation at Good Shepherd Lutheran church where her grand- daughter. Sandra Gibson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Gibson, Denfield, was confirmed. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Keller and family attended the confirmation and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Keller and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Keller and family attended Mindy's birthday celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Keller, Frieda Keller, Mrs. Maggie Nadiger and Helen attended the 50th anniversary banquet for the Lutheran Hour at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Kitchener, Friday. The film "The Dream that wouldn't Die" was shown. The speaker for the evening was Rev. Wallace Schulz, associate Lutheran Hour speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Amiel Fischer are patients in the hospital, Mr. Fischer at St. Joseph's hospital, London and Mrs. Fischer in South Huron hospital, Exeter. T -A photo Horticulturalists meet The Kirkton Horticulture Society held their first open meeting on May 5. The president Miss Jean Copeland welcomed the large crowd. A memorial service was observed for the late Mrs. Wm (Doris) Jones, one of the valued directors who passed away recently. There was a short sing -song accompanied by Mrs. Philip Johns. Chester Twambly from Woodstock was introduced by Mrs. Philip Johns. His hobby is african violets which he grows in his basement. He demonstrated how to propagate leaves and how he plants young plants in 2 1/2 inch pots as they produce more and better flowers in small containers. Fertilization was explained and also what insecticides to use. He had many lovely flowering plants for -sale which were quickly bought as many were pleased to have one to take home to try their luck. Mrs. Ellis Strahan thanked him for coming. Several lucky door prizes were drawn. The bus committee have been busy planning trips for June and July. Full details for these will be published in the local papers. Watch for them if you are interested. Cecil Wright from Lam- beth showed many in- teresting slides of "A Park is".
