GB chamber meets
at local museum
Continued from page IA
when the SETOC committee
put together information
packages for the school dis-
trict study committee who
were examining declining
enrolment in the Grand Bend
Public School. Work done by
the SETOC group was large-
ly responsible for the two
year reprieve given the
school by the Lambton Coun-
ty Board of Education.
The chamber's generosity
was not quite as apparent
when they received a re-
quest for financial support
from the village's rec com-
mittee for funding for the
summer playground
program. While the chamber
did not refuse the program
money, they did request
further information about it.
Secretary - manager
Robert Simpson was re-
quested to find out how
many children were in-
volved in the playground
program, and how much
money would be needed for
supplies. -

The playground program
is operated by the rec com-
mittee and usually two
supervisors are hired under
a government grant. It is
held in the parkette adjacent
to the parking lot, behind the
village hall.
The rec committee
suggested that the chamber
might help our with funding,
because many people who
leave their children at the
playground, then do their
shopping in the village.
Simpson reported that he
had hired two young women
to staff the Tourist Informa-
tion booth at the corner of
Highway 81 and 81 Crescent
this summer. They will be
hired under the South
Western Ontario Tourist
Association I SWOTA 1 and
Experience '81 Colleen
Sharen of Southcott Pines
and Theresa Backx of RR 2,
Grand Bend have accepted
the positions.
Several committees
reported the Burgerfest
plans are nearly complete.
This year, the Chamber
again intends to emphasize
the bed races as the feature
attraction. Burgerfest will
be held on June 19 and 20.
In other business, Bill
Pickett of Pizza Delight
reported that he had ordered
an advertisement on a vinyl
telephone book cover, only
to learn later that the
salesman had no intention of
ever producing the covers.
He warned other
businessmen to beware of
such sales.

In connection with the
waste disposal site a report
was'read from the Ministry
of the Environment.
The report concludes that
the Grand Bend waste
disposal site is located in a
sensitive hydrogeological
environment and therefore
may pose a serious con-
tamination threat to several
domestic wells and shallow
ground water in general.

The report continues, "For
this reason it is recom-
mended that you engage a
qualified consulting
hydrogeologist to carry out a
detailed assessment of the
site.
In this regard, the
Ministry is making available
funds in the amount of $7,000
under the Waste
Management Improvement
Program in order to assist
you with this assessment."
In other business, council:
Approved a temporary
sign permit for Bill Baird.
Delayed payment of a bill
of $4.52 from the Goose
Marsh municipal drain in
Bosanquet township until
more information is
received.
Learned that the summer
beach staff would be Dan
and Pete Logan fulltime and
Mike Wright on weekends.
