Times-Advocate, 1981-04-08, Page 49Hensall women cancel penny sale Palm Sunday service was conducted at Hensall United Church by Rev. Stanley McDonald who spoke on, "If Christ came to Hensall". If the Palm Sunday service took place for the first time in Hensall, it would probably be a very similar story. At first the joyful acclamation, then doubts would creep in and rejection would take place. Christ does come to Hensall every day and to every town and family. Let us be acceptors, not rejec- tors, then the Kingdom of God will become the Kingdom of this world and all will shout, Hosannah! Two anthems were sung by the senior choir led by Director and Organist, Dr. Ralph Topp, "The Children's Friend" by W.H. Anderson and the "Song of Zechariah" by H.H. Hopson. The children were shown a Sand Dollar from Florida and on it is a star, a poinsettia, a lily, the wounds of Christ and five doves, illustrating the birth and death of Christ. Many floral displays beautified the sanctuary around the pulpit. in loving memory of Mary Connolly, placed there by her family and in memory of Charles Holdway of Texas, a friend of Stanley McDonald's. Also an Easter lily donated by the Chiselhurst congregation. Mrs. Kathy Mann greeted the congregation at the door and the ushers were Brad Buchanan and Ross Veal. Following the service a congregational meeting was , held to discuss parking for e the church. It was decided to gravel part of the church lot to provide off-street parking. A letter regarding this matter is to be sent out to all members of the church. hostess was assisted by Mary Buchanan. McDonald closed 4the meeting with prayer. Hostesses were Fredo Boa and Sarah Dick. Unit 1 meets Unit 1 of Hensall United Church opened their regular meeting on Thursday by repeating the UCW purpose. Audrey Joynt presided, using for her devotional theme a chapter from Catharine Marshall's book "Devotions on Prayer" explaining how we parents spend time each day thinking of our children and praying for their future. Waiting i., very significant for the answer of our prayers. While waiting we stretch our trust in God, as Jesus said, He was the vine, we the branches, the vine is life. If the branch is not connected to the vine, no sap flows, and we cannot do anything -- waiting for an- swer to prayer is the key note of the evil. Pat Cook led a very in- teresting study on "Children of the Congregation" using a film showing how children, even though very young, may be emotional in the work of the church thus become very interested in becoming a part of the church. The taking of communion by the young before being confirmed was the subject discussed. It also showed young children giving out the church bulletins. There was a discussion following the pictures. Audrey Joynt gave a report on the adopted girl and her letters were read. Audrey Christie led the business. Date for the beef barbeque is April 22. The seeds for Zaire project is being well supported. Audrey Christie closed with an Easter thought and after the benediction members enjoyed Mrs. Middleton's Easter music.
