Hensall woman wins $1,000
WI decide not to disband after getting officers
The annual meeting of the
Hensall Women's Institute
was held at the United
Church on Wednesday, April
8. Committee reports and the
financial report were given
showing a bAlance of $66.69
to start the new year.

Ladies meet
in Exeter
The WMS of Carmel
Presbyterian Church, were
entertained at the manse in
Exeter on Monday evening.
The president Mrs. Robert
Bell presided and opened the
meeting with two poems
"The Resurrection" and
"Advice for Lent". Bertha
MacGregor was in charge of
the devotional and Mrs. Jean
Snell read the Scripture.
Bertha led in prayer and
presented the Easter
message, closing with
prayer and a hymn.
The roll call was answered
with "Signs of Spring". An
invitation was received from
First Presbyterian Church
Seaforth on April 28. The
visiting committee gave
their report and
arrangements were made
for the Birthday Party in
June. Mrs. Kathy Bell will be
in charge of the May
meeting. Mrs. Bell con-
cluded the meeting with a
poem "Life is Like a Gar-
den".
Mrs. Al Hoggarth presided
for the Ladies' meeting
following and opened with a
poem "Thank God" and
prayer. Marlene Bell
reported for the cards and
treats. Table arrangements
were made for the daffodil
tea and bake sale April 15 at
3 p.m.
The kitchen committee
reported, and flowers will be
placed in the church on
Easter Sunday. It was an-
nounced "The Watchmen"
will present an evening of
music on May 3.
Seniors
have feed
The Three Links senior
citizens held their April
meeting on Tuesday evening
commencing with a pot luck
supper, which was well
attended. Mrs. Bell presided
for the business meeting
with Mrs. Alf Ross at the
piano. The Spring Rally will
be held at Vanastra on April
28 with registration from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Volunteers
for cars were received.
Members are to take a box
lunch and prizes for Bingo at
Iluronview.
The May meeting was
reviewed.
The entertainment
committee, Mrs. Rannie and
Bertha MacGregor directed
progressive euchre. The
prize winners were ladies
high, Annie Reld; ladies
consolation, Helen Ander-
son; gent's high, Alf Ross;
gent's low, John Anderson;
lone hands, Clarence
Volland.

After a new discussion, it
was decided to rescind the
motion passed at the last
meeting to disband, and a
president having been found
the branch will remain open
with a smaller membership.
It is sincerely hoped that
younger housewives in the
community will join this
very worthwhile
organization. For in-

During the program a
sing -song was enjoyed and
readings on Spring were
given by Mrs. Cliff Britton.
In the business session, it
was decided to offer 65
copies of the "History of
Hensall' to the senior grades
of the public school. A gift
committee of Mrs. John
Skea, Mrs. Leona Parke and
Mrs. Pearl Koehler was
formed. Achievement night
for the 4-H clubs will be held
at the Exeter Public School
at 7 p.m. on April 28.
The meeting was con-
ducted by the president,
Mrs. Carl Paynewho opened
with a poem, "Help yourself
to happiness" and closed
with, "I know that my
Redeemer Liveth". Pianist
Mrs. Tom Sherritt. A contest

Mrs. Clarence Reid was
the lucky winner of $1,000.00
in the North Lions Radio
bingo, Wingham, last week.
Mrs. Vera McNicol of
Millbank recently spent two
days in Hensall and area.
While in town she stayed at
the home of Mr. & Mrs.
Leonard Noakes.
Bill Shaddick, Mark and
Michelle of Kitchener visited
during the past week with
the former's mother, Mrs.
Pearl Shaddick, who
recently returned from
Florida.
Mrs. Minnie Noakes spent
the past weekend in London
at the home of Mrs. Mabel
(Fee) Ball. While in London,
Mrs. Noakes attended a
vocal recital by Miss
Catharine Cooper of London
at the University of Western
Ontario.
Mr. & Mrs. Norman
Stanlake, Exeter, were
recent visitors with Mr. &
Mrs. Bert Thomson and
family. Mr. & Mrs. Jack
Corbett were guests at the
50th wedding of the latter's
sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Adams,
Exeter held at the Pineridge
Chalet on Saturday evening.
was enjoyed at the close of
the evening and the lunch
was served by Mrs. John
Skea, Mrs. Gladys Coleman
and their committee.
Next month, the 4-H girls
and leaders will be en-
tertained and a soup and
sandwich supper will be
served at 6:30 p.m. on May
13. We need new members,
so come and join us then.
