There's plenty of parking
available at the Stephen
Township Arena for the first
time in many months. With
the hockey and skating
season at an end local
shoppers will appreciate the
fact that they won't have to
carry their purchases nearly
as far as they did during the
winter.
Did you take in the
Hughes -Columbia open -h-
ouse on the weekend? If so
I'm sure you enjoyed the
opportunity to view the
excellent workmanship and
beauty of the craft built by
your friends and neighbors.
A good number of people
were in evidence. Owner
Howard Hughes and his
people can be proud of all
they have done for this
community.
The Optimist clubs in
North America will be
holding a Respect For Law
week from May 1 to the 7.
While the majority of
citizens do, there are still a
number who get carried
away and act with no con-
sideration for others. Even
though we live in what is
termed a free society, we are
still plagued with crime.
How do we control or prevent
this?
To start with we could put
more emphasis on looking
after our own property by
locking everything up. This
is generally accepted as
keeping out the honest
people. Don't turn your head
to crime. Too many people
are afraid to get involved. I
certainly don't mean that
you are to act alone and try
to apprehend a criminal but
you should get involved with
your community law en-
forcement officers, local
clubs and your neighbors
and try to make your
communities safe for your
families.
A good sized crowd turned
out for our club bingo last
Thursday night. Marion
Clipperton was the jockpot
winner in 52 numbers. This
low number brought about
many moans and goons from
the bingo buffs. Marion is
from London but manages to
attend the majority of our
bingos. Thenext bingo will be
held on April 23. You can't
win if you don't attend.
Kids Saturday bowling has
come to an end. It's been a
good winter for the little
ones. All that's left is to have
a party. This will be held on
Saturday the 25th at the
Optimist Hall. All children
who participated are invited
to attend along with their
parents. There will be hot
dogs and refreshments along
with a presentation of
trophies. Thanks to the
adults who turned out faith-
fully every week at 9 a.m.
and also the kids who braved
the elements in an effort to
have some fun.
What are you going to do
now that winter is over? Sort
of a stupid question to ask
Mrs. Ida Smith,
Crediton will celebrate
her 89th birthday on April
23.
Mr. Max Turnbull will be
90. years old on April 20.

Hints to married men:
Since all you guys say that
you wear the pants in your
family, we suggest that you
protect them by wearing an
apron while doing the dishes.
isn't it? Your going to, get
ready for a summer of warm
weather and fun. Many of us
will be spending the summer
away from the local com-
munities visiting friends and
relatives or camping.
For those of us who are
staying behind there will be
plenty of sports and ac-
tivities to keep us occupied.
Baseball, soccer, swimming,
bar-b-ques, lawn parties,
dances, fairs and many other
pleasantries will be offered
for your enjoyment. Keep an
eye on the T -A for times
dates and locations. Have a
safe and happy summer.
On the 26th of this month
the Optimists, Les Pines and
the Dashwood Hotel dart
teams are going to do battle
at the Dashwood Hotel. If
you wish to participate on
one of the teams contact the
following; Optimists (Tom
Lessard), Les Pines (Terry
Price), and Dashwood (Doug
Johnson).
An Optimist is a guy who
marries his secretary and
expects to continue dic-
tating.
A story taken from the
Optimist Magazine is
relevant to youngsters
participating in sports. It
reads '
Dear Parents and Fans—
Well here is another playoff
season,
So, I am writing to you for
just one reason.
Please don't scream, or
curse, or yell,
Remember I am not in the
N.H.L.
I am only ten years old,
An can't be bought or traded
or sold.
I am not looking for hockey
fame,
I just want to have fun and
play the game.
Please don't make me feel
I've committed a sin,
Because sometimes my
team doesn't win.
I don't want to be that great
you see.
i
1
I'd rather play and just be
me.
And so, in closing I'd like to
give you one tip,
Remember the name of the
game is
SPORTSMANSHIP!
The club needs a working
fridge for the hall. If you
have an extra one that you
don't know what to do with,
we'd appreciate your
donation.
Remember, You always
win if you lose with a smile.
