Denfield youth wins trip prize
Four Junior Farmers were
awarded Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food travel
scholarships at the Junior
Farmers' Association of
Ontario annual conference,
held in Toronto recently.
The travel scholarships
are presented each year to
four Junior Farmers who
have shown a high degree of
participation in Junior
Farmer activities, strong
leadership qualities, and
good knowledge of Ontario
agriculture.
This year's winners are
Heather Boyle, RR 3 Ripley,
Bruce County; Cathie
Lowry, Campbellford,
Northumberland County;
Lorraine Lewis, RR 4
Denfield, Middlesex County;
and Sandra Quehl, RR 3
Wellesley, Waterloo Region.
"These travel scholarships
provide an opportunity for
Junior Farmers to learn
about agriculture and rural
life in the United Kingdom,"

Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food ex-

Farmers an opportunity to
exchange ideas about rural
youth organizations.
The Junior Farmers will
visit Scotland, England,
Wales and Northern Ireland
during their eight-week stay,
May 8 to July 11. Their hosts
will be the families of
members of organizations
for rural young people in the
United Kingdom. As part of
this exchange program, the
United Kingdom
organization will send 10
delegates to visit Ontario
June 10 to August 26.
Winners of travel
scholarships to Australia
and New Zealand were also
named at the Junior Far-
mers conference. Stuart
Budd, RR 4 Simcoe,
lialdimand-Norfolk Region
and Bev Rawn, RR 3 Mount
Forest, Wellington County
won this year's scholarship,
sponsored by the Junior
Seniors

The Exter senior citizens
met in the Legion Hall with a
large attendance, and presi
dent Ken Johns in ch?ir.
Mildred Thomson read the
last article that Mrs. E.
Steiner (from Gram's
column) wrote for Times
Advocate. before they mov-
ed from Exeter.
Walter McBride read the
advisory group minutes.
The program was conven-
ed by Olga and Walter
Davis. and consisted of
musical numbers by the
Doug Stephens family, a
humorous skit by Olga
Davis. Alma Rundle, Olive
Thomson and Marjorie
Oke Bill Rhode favored with
violin music. accompanied
by Marjorie Johns. •
The meeting closed with
an Easter message by Olga
Davis and The Old Rugged
Cross was sung, followed by
Grace and lunch.
