Daghwood' Women's
Institute branch held their
annual meeting Tuesday,
,April 7 at the community
centre with all members
pre ent. Mrs. Eben
Weigand, presided for the
business. Reports were
heard from all the standing
committees.
Mrs. Gordon Bender gave
a report of the district
executive meeting held at
Hensall. Dashwood WI is to
be responsible for the
morning entertainment at
the District Annual May 21 at
Seaforth United church. The
Exeter fair list was read.
The meeting was turned
over to Mrs. Sid Baker who
presided for the election of
officers. The nominating
committee, Mrs. Valentine
Becker, Mrs. Mildred
Kellerman and Mrs. Ralph
Weber gave their report
which was accepted.
The new officers are: past
president, Mrs. Eben
Weigand; president, Mrs.

presidents, Mrs. Harold

A gift was presented to
Mrs. Eben Weigand and
thanks extended for her
three years as president. It
was decided to have secret
pals again this year. Secret
pals were made known at the
lunch tables with an ex-
change of gifts. Members
are reminded of the 4-H
achievement night held at
Stephen Central school Aarlt
28, 7 p.m. Dashwood Club 2
has an exhibit.
A number of crewel em-
broidery crafts were on
display made at the recent
workshop. Remarks were
heard from the newly elected
president, Mrs. Gordon
Bender. The directors were
in charge of lunch.
Medical committee
The Dashwood and area
medical centre committee
held a special meeting
Tuesday, April 7 at which
time it was unanimously
agreed that the plan fdr an
addition to the medical
building for a public library
be cancelled.
The committee met with
the Stephen township council
and two members of Hay
Township council regarding
business relating to the
building of the Dashwood
and Area Medical Centre.
Mark Easter
Calvary United church
services were well attended
Sunday. Easter music by the
choir was most enjoyable.
Pastor Jack Dressler, Zurich
was guest speaker for the
Ecumenical service in the
evening. A good number
from the Zurich churches
were in attendance and
enjoyed an hour of fellowship
after the service.
The ladies are reminded
of another ecumenical
service Tuesday evening
when the ladies of the Grand
Bend churches will be
guests.
The last of the Lenten
services will be held in
Zurich Wednesday morning
and there will be a com-
munion service Good Friday
morning in Dashwood United
Church.

Dashwood Seniors will
hold their meeting Monday,
April 30.
The youth of Zion Lutheran
church are holding a Sunrise
Service Easter morning at 6
a.m. followed by a breakfast
of scrambled eggs, ham and
hot cross buns.

Mark year of handicapped
Columnist at Clandeboye
CLANDEBOYE
The Clandeboye UCW
honoured the International
Year of the Disabled, by
having a special meeting at
the church Tuesday evening.
Gwen Lynn, president,
assisted by Hazel Williams
and Betty Coughlin led the
worship service depicting
the important roll of women
in the world today.
Guest speaker, Elaine
Townshend, of Clinton, who
was born without arms, told
how one of the main things
the handicapped have to
cope with is acceptance.
Trying to make people see
the many needs for the
handicapped in order for
them to live independant
lives. Elaine has her own car
with a steering wheel set low
enough for her to steer with
her feet.
Everything we use our
fingers for, Elaine uses her
toes. She received her
education by correspondent
courses, some through
Conestoga College. She is a
free lance writer and has a
column in the Exeter Times
each week as well as other
papers.
Elaine answered many
questions asked by the
ladies. Mary Scott thanked
Elaine for coming and
presented her with a gift of
money to cover her ex-
penses.
Other guests present were
Lucan and Brinsley UCW
and St. James ACW.
Following the meeting the
ladies were invited to the
Sunday School rooms for a
delicious lunch and social
time together.
The Clandeboye UCW held
their business meeting after
lunch. It was decided to
cellect for a shower gift for
Vicki Robicheau, elder
daughter of Winnie and Al
Robicheau who was married
recently. Plans were
discussed to visit a girls
group home in London
sometime in June.

Confirmation and Corn-
munion service was held
Sunday morning at Clan-
deboye United Church with
Rev. Keith Brown in charge.

A minuite talk for Missions
was given by Hazel
Williams. Holy Communion
was celebrated following a
Confirmation message by
Rev. Brown.
St. James
At St. James Anglican
church, the special morning
prayer service for Palm
Sunday involved the children
in procession, waving palm
branches. During the service
the children sang "Follow
Me" accompanied by Rev.
Pocock on the guitar.
Jim Cunningham assisted
the Rector by reading one of
the scriptures. In Sunday
School the children made
crosses from the palm leaves
and distributed them to the
congregation at the end of
the service.
Holy Communion will be
celebrated in St. James
church Thursday evening at
7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, the
Rector, will be assisted in
the service by his father,

Hockey trip
Joanne and Gord Hardy,
Helen and Jim Hearn, Anne
and Gary Revington, Larry
Lewis, David Hill, Steve and
Mack Hocking, all from this
community, were among a
group from Lucan that en-
joyed a bus tour on the
weekend to a hockey tour-
nament in Lake Placid, New
York.
The men played hockey
with the Hagen Hackers, a
make-up team from Lucan
area, spontored by Hagen
Pet Food Company, with Bill
Darling as organizer.
Their first game was
played in the new Olympic
Arena where the 1980 Winter
Olympics were held. They
played teams from Ottawa,
