PETER MARTIN CREnITON Lillies and white candles decorated the worship table Thursday evening, as the ladies of the Zion United Church Women met in the Sunday School auditorium. Marie Fydenchuck, Leila Finkbeiner, Evelyn Pickering and Della Sims were in charge of the devotions. Leila Finkbeiner opened the meeting by playing quiet piano music. Mrs. Fyden- chuk read a poem and Mrs. Pickering gave the Resurrection Scripture reading. While Mrs. Fydenchuk lit the candles. Mrs. Finkbeingr gave an Easter . reading. Marie Fydenchuk closed in prayer. Leila Finkbeiner intro- duced Mrs. Mina Talbot, Bayfield who spoke and showed slides on her trip to the Holyland. Everyone was transported back to the time of Christ by viewing Christ's birthplace, the Mount of Olives, Mount Herman, the place of the skull and many other historic places. Mrs. Muriel Snyder ran the projector while Mrs. Talbot explained each slide. Mrs. Talbot was thanked by Marie. Lunch was served by Marion Schenk, Nola Faist, and Gladys Wein. The business portion was opened with prayer by President Jean Neil. The roll call was taken and the minutes read and approved. The treasurers report was given. Lyle Hendrick reported she had sent 7036 stamps and would like eyeglasses to be in by the end of the month. A cookbook will be published. Recipes are to be left in the proper collection box in the front of the church. Mary Kenney thanked the lunch and program com- mittee. Honour holstein man Friday evening, Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Hodgins. Mr. & Town Topics Mr. & Mrs. Rick Haveling and baby Tara Lynn of Britt visited the former's mother, Mrs. Edith Haigh recently. Mrs. Glenn Hodgins and Mr. & Mrs. Peter Martin at- tended a recognition dinner honouring Gordon Bell for his twenty-five year service as a Western Ontario Fieldman with the Holstein Breeders Association. Over 660 people paid tribute to Mr. Bell by at- tending the dinner held in the Stratford Coliseum. The head table was piped in by Larry Needham of Ripley , master of ceremonies was William Grieve, grace was said by Ross Marshall. Don Simpson introduced the honoured guests who in turn paid tribute to Mr. Bell. They were Dave Stevens, Robert Flett, David Clemons, Allan Bain, and Fred Griffin. Mr. Bell then thanked everyone for their lovely gifts to he and his wife Mabel. Dancing followed to the beat of Lincoln Green. T -A photo Over 80 at Saintsbury White swans visit By MRS. HEBER DAVIS SAINTSBURY Earl Greenlee was sur- prised recently when he counted over 80 white swans on ,his wheat field. It's very unusual tosee a flock of white swans in this area. Mrs. Hugh Davis gave her home Monday and Tuesday for the ladies of the con- gregation of St. Patrick's church and several friends were quilting a queen sized quilt for the church group. Jeffery Young Lucan was Sunday guest with his grand- mother Mrs. Mary Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll returned home from Detroit Sunday. They spent the past ten days at the home of Harry's brother Mr. and Mrs. George Carroll. Intended for last week Mr. and Mrs. Larry Greenlee and children were Sunday dinner guests with Rev. George. and Mrs. Anderson, Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall, Marylon and Robert spent Saturday with Ron and Nan- cy Cunningham,Mar. Miss Joan Barker. London daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barker is visiting her sister. Miss Jean Barker R.N. of Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis welcomed home their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Love. Joy Anne and Amy Jean, Varna. They spent the past 10 days visiting their cousins Mr. and Mrs. Bob MacGillivray and Courtney. Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Greenlee held a birthday dinner Sunday, for their son Stephen who celebrated his fourth birthday. Guests were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Eaton and Mrs. Leonard. Marylou Tindall and Fred Dobbs students at Medway High School are partaking in a student exchange programme. They are to stay with French students in Quebec. They left Medway School Tuesday morning. • The Dobbs family enter- tained Leisa Canham and Doug Jackson during the Marchbreak. They attended the Sportsman's show in London. Centralia �g By MRS. FRED BOWDEN Sunday service "Finding God in Unex- pected Places" was the sub- ject chosen by Mrs. John Beaton. London, guest speaker at the service in the United Church on Sunday morning. Moses saw burning bush as a sign from God. Jacob with only a stone for a pillow found God. Other references used were the pearl of great price and the treasure buried in the field. We see God in nature, the budding of the trees and the opening of a flower. Sometimes God comes to us through our children, Jesus would go off by himself and wait for inspiration from God. Mrs. Chas. Hollings assisted in conducting the service. The choir sang an anthem. The flowers in the church were in memory of the late Mr. Cecil Skinner. This coming Sunday Mr. Peter Snell will be in charge ofthe service. Personols Mr. and Mrs. Wm Taylor, Detroit, and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Brae kenberry, Badaxe, Michigan attended the funeral of the late Cecil Skinner Monday of last week and were visitors at the 3i .74 home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Skinner. ' The Centralia quartet namely; Doug Gill, Sam Skinner, Bob Blair and $ob Heywood took part in the musical program presented in the Greenway United Church Thursday evening. Mrs. Doug Gill played the piano accompaniment for the singers. Miss Mary Shoebottom, London was a Sunday visitor at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shoebottom and family. Mrs. Beaton and Ann were Sunday luncheon guests with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Powe and Chris Beaton was a guest at the home of Mrs. Russell Wilson and family. Repairs have been going on for some time in both the church and the manse and much credit is due all who have volunteered their time for this work. Live so discreetly that you wouldn't be afraid to sell your parrot to the town gossip. A true friend is one who thins you're a good egg, even if you're slightly cracked.
