celebrated their 25th an-
niversary on April 4 in the
Mason's Hall.
Over 100 lady Foresters
and their husbands attended
this reunion. Following the
banquet, consisting of
Kentucky fried chicken
augmented with delicious
jellied salads, followed by
birthday cake, prizes were
won by Ken Hodgins for
being a Forester for the
longest number of years,
Rhoda Knight of Kitchener
got a prize for having
travelled the longest
distance to the reunion and
Alice Topping of Court Blue
Bell Strathroy found a silver
dollar under her chair. A
number of members of Court
Valentine received their 25
year pins.
Greeting were brought
from distinguished guests,
High Chief Ranger Bro. Ed
Short of Brantford, High
Chaplain the Rev. Stanley
McDonald of Hensall, Bro.
Percy White Forester of the
year, District Deputy Sis
Ruth Jarvis and her High
Marsal Bro. Vidal Mills and
Sis. Phyllis Gailbraith all of
London. There were
representatives from Court
Blue Bell Strathroy Court
Amythest London and Court
Fascination Ben Miller.
Olive Hodgins (Mrs. Ken)
was responsible for the
setting up a memorial
service for former members
who had passed away, who
were sisters Sara Squire,
Beth Thacker and Barbara
Rodd. A table was set up at
the front of the hall with an
open Bible between two
candles on it, and a floral
arrangement of daffodils
and pussy willows. The
Charter was draped and a
scroll bearing the names of
the former members was
displayed. The Herbert
sisters, Marion, Helen and
Bettyann, provided the
music.
Special entertainment was
music provided by the
Youngson family and their
band, and accordion solos by
Cindy Tazier.
A presentation by the past
presidents from 1956-1980,
with each one relating the
events that took place during
their year in office, brought
back many pleasant
memories.
Dozens of daffodils
were sold In Granton
A very successful sale of
daffodils was realized in
Granton and Edgewood
Store. The proceeds from
this sale will go the Cancer
Campaign fund.
Don't forget the Cancer
Education meeting on
Thursday evening at Lucan
School April 9 at 8 p.m. free
admission, lunch. Guest
speaker will be Professor
J.E. Cummins Genetic
Scientist, his subject will be
"Cancer Hygeine how it
effects the farmer and you".

Church news
At the United Church the
Rev. Elwood Morden con-
ducted the Passion Sunday
worship, and officiated at the
Sacrament of Holy Com-
munion. The Dialogue on the
series "Lenten Zoo" was

presented by Mr. & Mrs.
Leroy Bryan. The subject
was "The Lamb - Sacrifice
or Salvation". The lamb is
an animal closely associated
with Jesus, also with
sacrifice.
Rev. Morden continued
with his sermon "Voices of
the Passion".
Special inserts in the
bulletins were placed there
by the Lucan Biddulph
Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society, the bouquet
of daffodils was also a gift
from this society.
At the St. Thomas
Anglican Church Rev. Greg
Smith c nducted the worship
for the ifth Sunday in Lent.

The Lessons were read by
Mrs. Ken Hoar and Mrs. Lois
Herbert. In the children's
story, the Rector described
the rising of the sun, to our
lives, in bringing new and
brighter life to us. The
children then hung pictures
of the sun on the Jesse Tree.
Mrs. Don Beatson's class
sang a solo. Rev. Smith took
his sermon from the 8th
chapter according to St.
Mark, when Jesus speaks
about His suffering and
death, to His followers on the
road to Jeruselem.
The daffodils on the alter
were a gift from the Lucan-
Biddulph Cancer Society.
The Lenten Service of Holy
Communion was held on
April 1 with Rev. Smith
explaining each part of the
service.
The St. Thomas Anglican
Church ladies held their
monthly meeting on April 2
at the home of Mrs. Ken
Hoar. Mrs. Lois Herbert
opened the meeting with a
reading. A Bible
discussion on "The four
proofs of the Resurrection"
was led by Mrs. Hoar. Those
taking part in the Bible
readings were Mrs. Marlene
French, Mrs. Deanna
Beatson, Mrs. Cathy Hardie
and Miss Marion Herbert.
Plans were made for the
Perth Deanery ACW
meeting which is being held
on Wednesday evening April
8 in St. Thomas Anglican
Church at 6:30 p.m. with
coffee and dessert. Mrs.
Beth Smith of Lucan will be
the guest speaker.
Rev. Smith closed the
meeting with prayer.
Refreshemnts were served
by the hostess assisted by
Mrs. Lois Herbert.
Granton and community
youth group news
The members of this group
and their leaders enjoyed an
evening of roller skating at
"Wheels" in London on
Sunday March 29.

This week's lenten thought
was based on 1 Corinthians
13. Each girl was assigned a
word, and in a short speech
showed how Jesus had that
one particular trait. After
each talk the word was
placed on a cross, and the
members learned that
because of His deep love, He
was each of the other six
words. A responsive reading
showed the girls how they
too, are nothing unless they
have love.

meeting closed in prayer.
UCW units meet
Unit 1 met at the home of
Mrs. Robt. Hardie on April 1.
Mrs. Gorden McRobert
presided and opened the
meeting with the scripture
and Lesson Thoughts on
"Lenten Worship".
Several items of business
were discussed, also the
regional rally on May 4
which will be held at Zion
Church.
The program was on the
study of "Women of the
Bible" Mrs. Elmer Sum-
mers presented a paper on
the story of Rahab, and Mrs.
Elwood Morden read verses
from different books of the
Bible in connection with this
theme. A good discussion
followed. Mrs. Summer§
concluded with a reading
and Mrs. Hardie conducted a
word contest containing an
Easter message. Following
the benediction by Rev.
Elwood Morden, everyone
sat down to a meal prepared
by the hostess.
Mrs. Cliff Hardie was the
hostess for Unit 4 and also
president of this unit. The
meeting opened with lesson
thoughts entitled "Lenten
Worship Service" and
prayer.
During the business period
it was decided to have a
work meeting in May as
there were quilts to be
worked on. Mrs. Reg
Crawford was responsible
for the program and gave a
paper on the study of
"Women of the Bible"
Mrs. Gerald Dann assisted
by reading verse :. the
Bible in connection with this
theme.
Unit 5 met at the home of
Mrs. Garnet Baker. Mrs.
Chas. McRobert presided
and opened the meeting with
a poem.
Mrs. Emerson Wallis
convened the program and
opened with a poem. The
Bible study was on Women of
the Bible a paper on this
theme was presented by
Mrs. Wallis.
Mrs. Wallis read a story
and Mrs. Ina Harlton read a
poem. Mrs. Wallis closed
with an evening prayer. The
business was conducted and
Hev. Mordenpronounced the
benediction.
Unit 3 met at the home of
Mrs. Fred Cook. Mrs. Eric
Chovancek presided.
The final arrangements
were made fro the General
UCW meeting on Tuesday
April 14 at 8:15 p.m. at the
United church, Unit 3 is
responsible for this meeting
and have as guest speaker,

Blind. Anyone interested in
this subject is welcome to
attend.
Future catering was
discussed, and Mrs.
Chovancek read a letter
from the orphanage in India
concerning the foster child
that Unit 3 issupporting.
In place of the program the
members worked on a quilt
that they are making for a
bazaar.
