Money concerns
board trustee
Continued hum page
and Grand Bend preferential
treatment because of the
agenda. She attempted to
change the agenda, but Mrs.
Wight argued that it
wouldn't be fair to the
concerned parents who were
coming at 9:00 p.m.
Although other changes were
made in the agenda, the
Bosanquet township -Grand
Bend presentation was left at
9:00 p.m.
Parents from Bosanquet,
Grand Bend and Kinnaird
were bussed to the meeting.
Bus driver Don Lithgow
donated his time, and a hat
was passed to cover gas
costs.
Mrs. Wight's presentation
to the board included a slide
show of the three schools.
This was for the benefit of
some trustees who have not
visited the schools.
Mrs. Wight also informed
the board that enrolment
predictions have changed
since statistics were
gathered last September.
Enrolment at all three
schools appears to be in-
creasing. Last September
it had been predicted that
enrolment would be at 594 in
1981, 574 in 1982 and 566 in
1983. Mrs. Wight said that
present population trends
indicate that enrolment will
be at 607 in 1981, 549 in
1982 and 600 in 1983.
The trustees also asked
questions on the use of
portables at Aberarder and
Forest schools, if Kinnaird is
closed.
There was some discussion
on lowering tuition fees for
out -of -county students so
that children in Huron
county can attend Grand
Bend school.
Mrs. Wight explained to
the T -A that although one or
two trustees may not appear
to be in favour of the com-
mittee's recommendations,
all 16 trustees vote on the
question. She said that it
is important to note that the
committee was unanimous
in its decision to maintain
the status quo at the three
schools, and that this
decision was backed up by
the administration's report.
The board has never over-
turned the decision of a
unanimous committee and
administration, she said.
Also at last night's board
meeting, it was decided to
close Lochiel and Woodland
schools in Sarnia. There will
be no bussing involved in the
closing of these two schools,
Hensall group

The Hensall Senior Citizen
Housing committee met for
their weekly meeting on
Thursday, and decided to
hold a giant rummage sale at
the United Church on
Saturday, May 9, beginning
at 10 a.m. Good used
clothing, furniture, antiques
and household items can be
donated. All money raised
will be used for the expenses
of the housing committee
towards the erection of the
Senior Citizen apartments.

ficiating.
and no child will have to
walk fruther than .6 miles.
Space is available for the
children in the surrounding
schools.
The study committee
looking into the declining
enrolment at these two
school did not agree in its
decision. While the com-
munity representatives
preferred that the schools
remain open, the board
representives voted to close
them. Lochiel school is in the
core area of Sarnia, while
Woodland is in the north end.
The final decision on
Bosanquet, Kinnaird and
Grand Bend schools will be
made April 13. It is expected
that there will be a lengthy
discussion at that time.Mrs.
Wight suggested that area
residents should come to the
meeting early to get seats to
hear the proceedings. It is
hoped that a bus may again
be provided.
