Cancer Society
executive meet
The Lucan Biddulph
Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society met at the
home of Mr. & Mrs. Robert
Harloff Thursday evening to
set up the kits for the can-
vassers. A decision to sell
live daffodils this year has
been made. They will be on
sale on the sidewalks of
Lucan, Friday April 3 and in
Granton Saturday April 4.
Plans have been finalized
for the annual cancer
education meeting which
will be held Thursday
evening April 9 at 8 p.m. in
the Lucan Public School.
Guest speaker will be
Professor J.E. Cummins of
the Department of Plant
Sciences, University of
Western Ontario, who is
renowned in the field of
Genetic. Prof. Cummins'
subject will be "Cancer
Hygiene as it applies to the
farmer and to you".
Everyone is invited to come
and hear this interesting
speaker.
CG IT news
Jennie Anderson and
Melissa Harding were
reponsible for the meeting
Wednesday evening. They
chose as their "Lenten"
thought "Giving and
Receiving" based on the
scripture from Acts 20 where
Jesus said "It is more
blessed to give, than to
receive.
The plays for the variety
show were practiced, and the
Easter Sunrise service
discussed. Tickets for the
breakfast following the
service can be obtained from
any member of the youth
groups.
4-H news
Members of the Granton 4-
H club the "Fancy Fryers"
and their leaders entertained
mothers and five members
of the Granton Women's
Insitute, with a delicious
luncheon, cooked and
prepared by the girls
themselves.
On the menu was quiche,
bar -be -cue chicken wings,
tuna, tossed salad, jello and
homemade buns, topped off
with delectable lemon pie,
and cheese for dessert.
Having received an in-
vitation as an Institute
member, I can state first
hand that the meal was a
culinary success. Following
lunch a sing -song was en-
joyed, and then we were
treated to a preview of the
skit the girls are doing for
Achievement Day.
Church news
At the United Church the
Rev. Elwood Morden was in
charge of the morning
worship for the third Sunday
in Lent.
Continuing with the third
presentation on the series
"Lenten Zoo" Mrs. Gordon
McRobert and Mrs. Robert
Harloff talked about the
"Horse" and the part this
animal played in War and
Peace. Mentioned were the
human interest stories such
as "Black Beauty" and "My
Friend Flicka".
The four Horsemen of the
Apocalypse symbols men-
tioned in Revelations
denoting Death, War,
Famine, and Victory.
Saying, we must discover an
alternative to war, by
eliminating the causes and
by understanding and love,
and trust not in warfare but
love.
Rev. Morden trek the text
for his sermon from the
fourth chapter of the first
Epistle of John and entitled
it "Voices from the
Passion". It was John that
Jesus appealed to, to look
after His Mother Mary at the
Crucifixion, and it was John
who said There is no Faith
Without Love, we must
understand and love Jesus.
Feeding one another, this
is the way God wants it to be,
He wants us to be concerned
about each other. In his
Epistle John says "Beloved,
if God so loved us, we ought
also to love one another."
Personals
Sincere sympathy is ex-
tended the family of the late
Mrs. William Jones, the
former Doris A. Bryan, who
passed away suddenly at her
