It's not every beach along Lake Huron's shores that can boast a Playboy model. Along with sun, sand and surf, this resort will have Jo Penney. Mrs. Penney, who operates a modelling and talent agency in Toronto, was featured over six pages in the March issue of Playboy. She and her husband Derek Penney purchased a lakefront home in Southcott Pines last year, and plan to spend most of this summer there. How did an active Toronto business woman end up buying a home in Grand Bend? She was visiting friends near Grand Bend and they mentioned that the property was for sale. "I saw the sailboats on the lake, and it was instant love at first sight," Mrs. Penney told the T -A. She describes her new home as "very, very nice". "Last summer we were just getting in," she explains. They did some re- decorating, but didn't have much time to enjoy the beach. This year they expect to spend most of the summer in Grand Bend. And for all you girl - watchers -- she plans to entertain a lot of her clients, actresses and models at her Jo Penney new home She says she is really looking forward to summer -- "I love it!" Mrs. Penney was an ac- tress and model herself, and in her words, "graduated into the booking end of the business". You may remember her from the CBC show "This is the law". She is also a skilled dancer - choreographer. She says she likes being an agent very much. "I enjoy my work thoroughly, I'm a workaholic. I love my life, the life I've cut out for myself," she explains. Mrs. Penney's business, known as Jo Penney Inc., has supplied Playboy with several models. Playboy calls her model and talent agency an "institution" in the Canadian modelling business. She manages 40 female models, (30 adult and ten juniors, aged 16 to 19), ten male models and 30 actresses and actors. But, Playboy stresses, a woman needn't sacrifice her femininity to be successful in the business world. And to prove it, they photographed Jo Penney. Her response when they asked her to pose? "I thought you'd never ask" Playboy replied with "It's nice to get a Penney for your thoughts" "It was something I've always wanted to do" Mrs. Penney said about posing for Playboy. To be asked to model for them at age 33 was very "flattering", she adds. Most of the Playboy models are in the 19 to 23 age categories. She travelled to Chicago to Junior Farmers celebrate special provincial week This week March 20-27 marks an important week in the lives of the South Huron and Provincial Junior Farmers. This week has been designated as Junior Far- mer week. During this week the South Huron Junior Farmers will be involved in club, county and provincial activities. The week started off on Friday night with a dance at the Exeter Rec Centre. Saturday morning saw a successful bake sale in the foyer of the Centre Mall. This was a county wide event with other bake sales in Wingham, Seaforth, Lucknow and Goderich. The profit from these bake sales will beturned over the provincial Junior Farmer Association who will then turn it over to the disabled. The South Huron Junior Farmers have also pur- chased and presented a shower wheel chair to the South Huron Hospital. Tuesday night all county members are going to take their talent tc Bluewater Centre in Goderich to en- tertain the members. The end of the week sees three of our enthusiatic members headed for the Provincial Junior Farmer Conference in Toronto. Many more members plan to at- tend the banquet and dance on Saturday night. It is not only during Junior Farmer week that the South Huron members are busy and involved in community activities. During the past four years, since we have been organized, many projects have been un- dertaken. For the past three years we have canvassed the area townships for the Canadian Heart Fund this involves a lot of well spent time of the Junior Farmers. In the past we have painted the Huron County signs and some area cemetery posts although FIRST COMMUNION A very special lady to be remembered with cherished thoughts for a lifetime. Your gift from Earl Campbell Jewellers becomes more personal with an engrav- ed plaque. For a first Communion gift we will be pleased to engrave at no charge until Easter. Ca tiljaLely Jewellers sl .M„,y.. more paint was gotten on the members than the signs, it was still a job well done. As you enter into the area fall and spring fairs, that delicious aroma you smell is probably coming from the South Huron Junior Farmers food booth. At the Exeter Fair while the females are flipping hamburgers, the males are operating a tractor rodeo which is sponsored by the South Huron Junior Farmers. Last summer and fall, members brought in their Zehrs tapes. With the money from these Zehrs tapes we purchased and presented an air mattress to the South Huron Hospital. This is used so the bed ridden patients don't get bed sores. Also last summer the South Huron Junior Farmers hosted a picnic for the members of two mentally handicapped group homes in Exeter. This was areward- ing experience for both the group home members and the Junior Farmers. Through the Foster Parents Plan we sponsor a foster son from Bogota, Columbia, We get frequent letters telling us of his progress and activities. For the past few years the Junior Farmers have been helping at the Pork Congress to park cars. This is always a fun time for the Junior Farmers. Last year we ended off our year with a hayride thoughout Exeter. Although we didn't really sing a lot of Christmas carols, we still had a lot of fun. Throughout the year South Huron Junior Farmers sponsor dances at the area community centers. This is a chance to meet new friends and have a good time. The first Wednesday of each month marks our club meetings. At these meetings we do everything from touring Arc Industries, to having a scavenger hunt, to having pool or beach parties. The Huron County Junior Farmers have also been busy this year building a garden shed for the Bluewater Centre, and hosting the Provincial directors' meeting and the Provincial winter games. As well as numerous other activities. April is membership month, so that now you can become involved in the activities of the Provincial, county and clubs levels of the Junior Farmer Association of Ontario. You will find as numerous others have, that it is time well spent! There are many strings to a man's life --apron, heart, purse and harp. the Playboy mansion, where the photo session went on for two days. "It was highly professional -- nothing cheesy or sleazy," Mrs. Penney says. She thinks that the feature came off with a lot of class and sophistication, and according, to her fan mail, the public agrees with her. "That's exactly what Playboy wanted," she adds. Mrs. Penney refused to reveal what she was paid for the photo session, but said she viewed it more as a promotion for her business. "I did it for the publicity," she says frankly. And it worked! "I thought I was busy before, now I'm a hundred times busier," she says. Her work with Playboy has put her modelling agency Page 1 A "on the map." "I've been swamped," she laughs, As a result, her company has developed much closer and stronger ties with Los Angeles and New York, .where many of the jobs are located. She is opening some new offices in the United States, and expanding her Canadian operation. She says the film and television industry is about to take off in Toronto, and her agency will be very active. Publicity certainly followed close on the heels of her Playboy venture. She was soon written up in Maclean's newsmagazine. And the fan mail pours in. She expects to still be an- swering the many letters when she's lying on Grand Bend's beach this summer. I JR.
