Church news At the United Church the Rev. Elwood Morden con- ducted the morning worship for the second Sunday in Lent. Continuing with his Lenten series "Lenten Zoo", the minister entitled this presentation given by Mr. & Mrs. John Scott "The Lion - Pride or Prayer". The lion is mentioned in the Bible, in Hosea as a symbol, and in the book of Daniel, we all know the story of Daniel in the lions den, then Samson who killedlions with his bare hands. It was shown that pride or boasting can be overcome by prayer. The book "Born Free" by Joy Adamson was also mentioned, as denoting that everyone has a right to be free. In his sermon Rev. Morden described the story of Simon Peter the Fisherman Disciple, as Peter would have told it in is own words, the story of Peter's denial of Jesus, and how this follower of Christ suffered and wept for his weakness, yet Jesus gave him love and un derstanding, and forgiveness. At. St. Thomas Anglican Church the Rev. Greg Smith was in charge of the worship for the second Sunday in Lent, also the Celebrant of Holy Communion, assisted by Miss Marion Herbert. In the children's story Rev. Smith explained how when corn is popped it blossoms and becomes larger, and in this way they are like the corn, when they grow from a baby and blossom to a full grown person. Strings of popcorn were hung on the Jesse tree by each child. Kenny Beatson read the Epistle. The rector preached his sermon from the Epistle, on living in holiness and charity. We have been called by God to be holy and to live a Christian life. We must be prepared for growth, and to keep growing, love one another and live quietly, to show to others the Light of Jesus Christ our Lord.
