Or, just sit Cheapest council in Huron! Although they found out this week that they are paid less than their counterparts in the other four towns in Huron, members of Exeter council appeared hesitant in taking positive steps to correct that situation. A discussion was held on salaries, but the matter was Filially tiirried over to the finance committee for their consideration. Councillors Gaylan Josephson and Jay t;ampbell had been named to study salaries and the former said this week that Exeter is well below the average found in Huron. He said the average stipend for a mayor in the other four towns was $3,476, compared to the $2,300 paid in Exeter., The, average salary for council members in the other four towns is $2,247 and Exeter's is currently $1,800. All four towns are higher in the mayor's stipend with Goderich leading the way at $6,813. Only Wingham has a lower scale for council members than Exeter, that being $1,565. Goderich is the highest at *3,406. Most of the other towns, however, pay a per meeting fee, while Exeter's is an annual salary. Mayor Bruce Shaw said the latter was implemented when it was found that Exeter did not have absentee problems with council members and it eliminated situations where special meetings may be called to increase compensation, although he was quick to suggest he didn't know any idiot who .would .want. to attend more meetings just to boost his compensation. "We're all grossly un- derpaid," Shaw said in Rade Ihaek/ saw s_. . 79 9E Rag 99 AS 17r_.atisfic 1 .01111 reference to the stipends of the other towns. Councillor Bill ; Miclde moved that the report be filed, saying he would like to sit for a year and if council members had the courage to up their stipends in an election year then they could do so. However, the motion was defeated, with the only support coming from Morley Hall. Councillor Lossy Fuller said there should be a little increase each year to avoid problems experienced a few years ago 'by the federal government when they boosted their remuneration by a substantial amount. • Frequency equalizer Stereo 5 -bands. 10 precision linear controls system cabinet with centre detents.
