The petition presented by Sam Skinner and Howard Pym asked for free long dis- tance calls between Cen- tralia and Kirkton ex- changes and between Kirkton and Lucan. A petition from Dirk Hoonard for new drainage works on concession 2-3 was accepted and A.J. DeVs of Spriet Associates was nam- ed engineer. The drainage com- missioner indicated reported the Verbeke, Cor- nish, Morely and Washburn municipal drains were ready for council's consideration. The 1981 road program will include rebuilding of Concession road 2-3 from County road 6 to Huron street. Building inspector Her- man Van Wieren reported issuing no building permits during the month of February. During the regular March meeting. council ex= amined the list of properties liable for tax sale in 1981 and were advised that the amount of 1980 taxes in arrears has been reduced to $16.692.06 or 2.41 percent of the total tax roll for 1st year. Council supported a resolution from the region of Hamilton -Wentworth which calls for stiffer penalties for criminals using firearms. Arrangements will be made to complete a survey of the Webber farm with a view to selling the farm land not connected with the Stephen reviews '81 road budget At the latest meeting of Stephen township council road superintendent Eric Finkbeiner reviewed the 1981 road budget. It will total $416,000 in- cluding a supplementary of $210.000 to allow completion of the Devil's Elbow bridge which is now under construc- tion. Rental for the township grader for ratepayers was increased to $35 per hour and the backhoe rates were rais- ed to $23 per hour. The annual road tour by township officials has ten- tatively been set for April 13. The Ministry of Transpor- tation and Communication has approved the purchase of a Mack truck with snowplow attachment from Carrier Mack Trucks for '$80,577.93. Subsidy will only be available.on $71,830.60 the amount of the lowest tender received. Maximum road subsidies of $1,000 were approved for the police villages of Cen- tralia. Crediton and Dashwood. Final readings were given to the bylaws covering the Brand. Kuhn. Lamport, Pickering and Adams municipal drains. The report on the Mud Creek municipal drain will be read on March 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stephen Com- munity Centre' in Crediton.
