Zurich Buckeyes
player suspended
Another team in the South
Huron intermediate hockey
league has been hit with'
disciplinary action for the
use of an illegal player.
This time it's the defen-
ding champion Zurich
Buckeyes. The Buckeyes
have been stripped of all
their points and statistics of
games in which Glenn
Nicholson was a participant.
Nicholson has been
suspended for the balance of
the season. His driver's
licence which is used on the
player card as proof of
Great Lakes
ball league
A new baseball league is
being organized this year to
accommodate senior teams
from the Huron -Perth and
Western Ontario Athletic
Association and junior clubs
from the London area.
At a recent meeting held at
the Thames Valley golf club
in London plans were made
to establish the Great Lakes
baseball league.
Included will be the Dash-
wood Tigers, Clinton Colts
and Thorndale Angels from
the Huron -Perth , Kin-
cardine from the WOAA
along with the Ser-
vicemaster and Somerset
Homes junior teams from
London and the Strathroy
juniors. The Arva seniors
are also being admitted.
The schedule is expected
to start on May 9 and con-
clude by July 13.
After completion of league
play, the Dashwood, Clinton,
Thorndale and Kincardine
clubs will represent their
own associations in Ontario
Baseball Association
playoffs.

The team's representative
on the league executive Ron
Rader has been suspended
for the balance of the regular
season and the first round of
playdowns.
The entire Parkhill team
and one Forest player were
suspended several weeks
ago for similar playing card
infractions. A year ago the
Thedford team was
suspended.
League president John
Stpehens commented this
week, "The teams should
realize we mean business. I
was quite surprised that we
had these infractions this
year after the crackdown of
a year ago."
The Exeter Mohawks were
fined $50 for using a number
of ineligible players in a
game in Zuirch on February
15.
With the revised standings
the Hensall Sherwoods ended
in first place and received a
first round playoff bye.
The playoff pairings are
Goderich against Centralia
College, Zurich versus the
Centralia Marauders and the
Exeter Mohawks against the
Forest Boyds.
Exeter and Forest played
a 3-3 tie in their playoff
opener. The Centralia
Marauders and Zurich
Buckeyes meet Thursday
night at the Stephen
township arena on Sunday
afternoon in Zuirch while
Goderich and Centralia
College meet at the Stephen
arena Wednesday night.
The first game was played in
Goderich Monday night.
Senior Panthers
in H -P playoffs
The South Huron senior
Panthers won the Huron -
Perth Conference league
championshipWednesday as
they nipped Stratford
Northwestern by a score of
62-61.
The Panthers completed
the season with nine vic-
tories and only one defeat
while Stratford
Northwestern. and Goderich
tied for second. The Strat-
ford club was awarded se-
cond place as they defeated
Goderich during the
schedule.
Fourth place Stratford
Central were up against the
Panthers in a Tuesday
sudden -death semi-final
game at the South Huron
gym while Goderich took on
Northwestern.
The only South Huron
senior Toss this season was
to the Goderich Vikings in
overtime
In their final game despite
a slow start the Panthers
came alive in the second
quarter to beat the Huskies
at their game of "run and
gun" and tie the score at 36-
36 at halftime.
In the second half, South
Huron' opened a gap of four
points and held on to win by
one point after Steve Pearce
came up with the ball on a
jump under South Huron's
basket in the dying seconds.
The key to the win accor-
ding to coach Terry
O'Rourke was the improved
foul shooting which has
dominated practices.
Doug Hoffman rebounded
well and led the scoring with
19 points while Dave Bell
Ilderton rink
wins again
For the second consecutive
year, an llderton Curling
Club rink, skipped by Ted
Shyiak, were winners of the
Kongskilde Bonspiel at the
Exeter Curling Club,
Saturday.
Ted and Hope Shyiak, and
Chuck Godkin, and
Dianne Godkin, won the first
draw and successfully edged
out the second draw winners,
a Windsor rink skipped by
Randy Leavite.
The trophy was presented
to the Shyiak rink by Gerry
Smith on behalf of
Kongskilde.

A week earlier the
Panthers downed Listowel
51-46 in a crucial game in
which they came from
behind.
After the Listowel win,
coach Terry O'Rourke call-
ed this year's team the
hardest working club he had
ever coached at South
Huron.
In the Listowel game,
Doug Hoffman and Matt
McClure both turned in fine
efforts each scoring 16
points. Dave Bell also made
a significant contribution
with 15 points.
Second ladies
draw ended
The second draw of the
ladies curling club has been
completed with Sylvia
Smith and her team of Fern
Dougall. Louise Giffin and
;ail Lawson the winners on
Tuesday afternoon.
Sharon O'Toole and her
team of Agnes Bray, Helen
Dougall and Mary Relouw.
were the high winners
Wednesday night.
Audrey McDonald and her
rink of Julie Rattrav, Fran
Mic•kle and Marie Brunslow
were the winners on Thurs-
day. The playoffs for the
trophy are not completed at
the present time.
The Ladies Bank of Mon-
treal honspiel was a great
success this year. 'teams
from St Marys. Seaforth,
Vanasti•a. Bayfield. Forest,
llderton. London. Listowel
and Exeter took part. The
trophy went to an llderton
team with Seaforth in se-
cond place
The ladies second in-
vitational honspiel was held
Wednesday with teams from
Vanastra and llderton play-
ing. The high winner was
Karen Shirrav and her team
of Helen Rankin, Betty
McGee and Sylvia Smith.
Second prize winners were
Melva Esker, Beatrice
Richardson. 'Trudy Hill and
Helen Burton Third prize
winners were Lois Evans,
Dot Wales Eileen Rannie,
and Barb %'p
The annual bunny Bundle
honspiel will he held

Lucan winners in atom tournament
The Lucan atoms won the
Shamrock "A" playoff
tournament in Exeter,
Saturday, posting a 5-4
overtime win against
Goderich in the final.
Jeff Bond scored his third
goal of the game after 25
seconds of the overtime
session to send the northern
league champs home with
the silverware.
Terry Ouimet scored the
other two Lucan goals, as the
Irish battled back from a 3-0
deficit in the first period to
get the win.
Perhaps ,the most im-
portant play in the game was
a penalty, not a goal.
Goderich star Scott Garrow
who scored nine goals in the
tournament, was ejected in
the first minute of the second
period on a slashing penalty.
In their opener, Lucan
scored a 5-2 win over
Strathroy, again coming
back from a two -goal deficit.
