Youths march at Crediton

CREDITON
Wednesday evening the
Crediton 4-11 girls hosted
their mothers and the
Womens Institute to a
delicious pot luck supper in
the town hall.
After supper W.I.
president Mrs. Dave Cottel
welcomed everyone and
introduced W.I. District
president, Mrs. Carl Payne
and District secretary
treasurer, Mrs. Cecil Pep-
per.
The meeting was opened
with the Ode and Collect.
Mrs. Pepper graciously
accepted to play the piano
for the evening.
The roll call was answered
by "An emergency which
could happen on an outing
and how I would handle it".
Mrs. Payne brought
greetings from the Huron
South district.
The 4-11 girls answered
their roll call by introducing
themselves and their
mothers.
Mrs. Cottel turned the
meeting over to Valarie
Over 80 Club
Best wishes for a happy
birthday to Fred Weiberg, of
Blue Water Rest Home, who
will be having his 90th bir-
thday on February 27.
Finkbeiner, chairlady for the
4-11 girls who opened with a
sing song led by Mrs. Peter
Martin, Mrs. Pepper ac-
companying on the piano.
Karen Haist spoke on the 9-
H conference held in Cen-
tralia.
Jim Hoffman spoke on
first aid. He demonstrated
how to assist a choking
victim. He pointed out the
importance of keeping calm
in an emergency and
knowing your ambulance
number.
He closed by showing a
film "How to Handle an
Emergency. Karen Hodge
thanked Jim for his very
informative talk. The cups
and saucers were then
presented to the following
girls by president Mrs. Dave
Cottel.
District Director Mrs.

convener Mrs. Cliff Kenney.
County Honours 6 clubs
Karen Hodge, Dinette
Steffens and Susan Sullivan.
Provincial Honours 12 clubs
Mary Ann Devlaemick,
Valarie Finkbeiner.
Advanced Honours 18 clubs
Anne Dearing.
Those girls who were to
receive cups and saucers but
could not attend because of
the bad weather are asked to
be at the March 25 meeting
to receive their cup and
saucer.
Mrs. Payne and Mrs.
Pepper were presented with
a birthday cup and saucer
from the Womens Institute
president Mrs. Dave Cottel.
The meeting was closed
with the song "Put your
Hand in the Hand" and the 4-
H pledge.
A short business meeting
followed for the Womens
Institute. The minutes and
correspondence were read.
The treasurers report given.
The next meeting will be
Family Night on March 25. A
pot luck supper at 7 p.m.
Bring another family. with
you.
Stitchers meet
The 4-H Crediton Stitchers
met at the home of Heather
Bowers Thursday evening.
The meeting was opened
with the 4-H pledge..
The girls learned' how to
sew a dart, gathering stit-
ches, seam facings, seams
and pressing. The next
meeting is February 26 at
Heather Bowers.
Church parade
Zion United Church
celebrated Baden-Powell
Sunday on February 22 by
having the 1st Centralia
Cubs, Beavers and Brownies
in attendance at the morning
service.
Following the Prelude by
Doug Lewis the Cubs,
Beavers and Brownies
paraded into the church
placing their colors beside
the dias.
Following the an-
nouncements the Akela
asked for the flags to be
dedicated by Rev. Elder.
A presentation of Religion
and Life Awards were made
to several cubs by Akela
Graham Swaine and Rev.
Brian Elder.
The scripture was read by
Cub Derik McCann and The
Prayer of Thanksgiving
written by the Cubs was led
by Steven Wilson.
The sermon was entitled
"It Won't Grow -But It Did".
After the benediction the
Cubs, Beavers and Brownies
left the sanctuary followed
by the congregation.
Weekly reminders for the
congregation are as follows,
choir practice Wednesday
evening. The UCW are in-
vited to a craft show and
auction to be held Tuesday
March 3 at 8 p.m. in the
Mount Carmel School gym.
World Day of Prayer will
be held March 6 at 2 p.m. in
Zion United Church. Guest
speaker is Shirley Luther,
Hensall.
Personals
Mr. & Mrs. Harvey
Hodgins and Mr. & Mrs. Cliff
Ritchie have returned home
after touring Florida for the
last two weeks. They visited
with Lois' father, Mr. Otis
Sawyer in Big Pine Key and
enjoyed all the usual at-
tractions Florida has to
offer.

ticipated in Sunday's service at the Crediton United Church. Leading the parade of Cubs

Places First In Competition

Exeter Stedmans dealer Jim Ross (left) received
tickets to Hawaii from Stedmans district represen-
tative Ray Hiderman last Tuesday in recognition of
the local store's first place finish in the annual Sted-
mons store management competition. Jim and his
wife Jessie, who is also his partner, will be taking the
trip in the near -future. The Exeter store is the first
outlet in the chain to win a major award three con-
secutive years. Mr. Ross gives much of the credit to
his stoff for the continuous high ratings the store hos
received since opening in 1976.
