Three minor teams
sidelined by St. Marys
The OMHA playoff come
to an abrupt halt for Ex-
eter's minor hockey teams
this week as they were all
ousted in three straight by
St. Marys.
The local pee wees, ban-
tams and midgets will now
have to get some exhibition
games to stay in shape for
the Shamrock league playoff
tournaments which will be
held in the early part of
March.
The quick elimination of
the pee wees and bantams
was predicted, but the
midgets were expected to do
better against St. Marys
after topping them for the
Shamrock northern title.
However, St. Marys open-
ed the series with a 7-1 win
in Exeter on Wednesday and
followed it up with 5-1 and 6-
4 verdicts on the weekend to
sideline the locals.
Sunday's final game at the
rec centre was the only one
in which the Exeter crew
had any punch. They
rebounded from a 4-2 deficit
to tie the game early in the
third, but then watched the
visitors salt it away with two
goals later in the stanza.
The visitors scored on
three powerplay attempts,
while Exeter failed to pot a
goal on two occasions when
they enjoyed a two-man ad-
vantage.
Scott Pincombe paced Ex-
eter with a two -goal perfor-
mance. while Mike Clark
and Jeff Rowe notched the
singles. Dave Underwood
and Scott Brintnell con-
tributed a pair of assists and
singles were recorded by
Dennis McBride, Steve
Prout and Clark.
In Saturday's 5-1 loss in St.
Mary's. Scott Pincombe was
the lone' triggerman on an
unassisted effort early in the
third period after the home
team had built up a com-
manding 4-0 lead.
Pincombe again was the
lone scorer in the 7-1 home
Toss in the series opener.
Dave Underwood drew the
assist and it gave Exeter an
early lead, but it stood for
only 23 seconds andSt.Marys

Bantams ousted
The Exeter bantams were
drubbed 11-1 in their series
opener in St. Marys and then
dropped 2-0 and 6-1 verdicts
to end their playoff attempts
quickly.
St. Marys took a 2-0 lead in
the opener and Steve Batten
pulled Exeter to within one
midway through the second
before they collapsed to lose
the one-sided tilt. Brent
Dawson and Jeff Pfaff
assisted on the lone Exeter
marker.
In the second game in Ex-
eter. the locals stayed with
the visitors throughout. St.
Marys scored late in the se-
cond period and then added
the clincher with a minute
and a half left in the game
which featured some out-
standing netminding by Ex-
eter goalie Rick Gilfillan.
Exeter trailed by only two
goals to start the third
period in Sunday's final
game. but the St. Marys
crew rattled in four more to
take the series in convincing
fashion.
Steve Gould scored Ex-
eter's lone goal on a play
with Steve Batten and Calvin
Stanlake.
Waxers get split
The Exeter novice split in
a pair of weekend games,
losing to Seaforth on Satur-
day and then posting a 5-0
win over Parkhill on Sun-
day.
Seaforth scored once in
each period to take a 3-1 win
in the first game. Tim
VanDam scored Exeter's
lone tally near the end of the
third on a play with Mark
Burton.
In Parkhill, Sunday, Alan
Btommaert recorded a hat
trick to pace the locals to
their decisive win. Robbie
McLelland and Tim
VanDam added the singles.
VanDam. Blommaert and
Craig Soldan added two
assists each while Soldan
had one.

held recently at Hully Gully
in Varna. Randy Collins

The new executive is:
president Rob Essery, vice-
president Bevan Shapton,
secretary Kim Kipfer, press
reporter Brenda Brunzlow.
The snowmobile club is
being led by Gerald Thiel
and Bob Pavkeje. It was
decided that meetings would
be held Monday nights.

held January 26, at Rob
Essery's. Everyone
repeated the 4-11 Pledge and
the secretary read the

wrote a snowmobile driving
