PETER MARTIN Thursday evening 20 UCW members met in the Sunday School auditorium. The Worship service was con- ducted by Irene Finkbeiner, By MRS. HEBER DAVIS Service at St. Patrick's church Sunday was can- celled so the members could attend service at St. Paul's Kirkton. The staff of the 1980 Huron church camp assisted Rev. Greg Smith with the service. They provided guitar music and led in the singing. The Holy Communion service was the conclusion of the staff reunion. Mrs. Hugh Davis accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Carroll and Mr. H.F. Davis attended the service, due the weather others were unable to attend. Personals Mrs. Harry Carroll whowas a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital London for the past week returned home Sunday. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Dietrich and Lenny, Dash- wood were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. Michael Davis. Lenny was observing his birthday. Miss Brenda Carroll spent the weekend with Mrs. Louisa Beck Exeter. Guests with Mr. H. Davis were Mr. & Mrs. Bob Tin- dall, Marylou and Robert on Saturday and Mr. & Mrs. Earl Greenlee, Sunday. Thursday she was lunch guest with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Barker, Lues n Mary Kenney and Gloria Martin. Joyce Preszcator played the piano. The theme being on "Grapes". Mrs Finkbeiner and Mrs. Kenney illustrated the theme through verse and scripture. Gloria Martin sang "Fill My Cup Lord", and closed with prayer. Marie Fydenchuk, vice- president opened the business withprayer. Roll call was taken and the minutes were read and treasurer's report given. Mrs. Hendrick would like all the used cards to be in her possession by the end of February. Stamps are to be counted and in by the end of March. Mrs. Irene Finkbeiner and Mrs. Marie Fydenchuk gave a report on the Presbyterial in Brucefield. Coffee and cookies were served at the beginning. A sing song followed. Stewardship programe was taught by Grace Drummond, • In the afternoon session the guest speaker was Betty Nortey, asocial worker with the MOS at Monkton. Her topic was "Partners in Crisis". She spoke on her work in Oshawa and Labrador. Two hundred and fifty ladies attended this Presbyterial from Perth and Huron Counties. The crewel course will proceed as soon as the weather permits. Two courses are planned, an afternoon and evening session. Interested persons are to contact Marie Fydenchuk, Irene Fink- Minnr nr Nnla Faief 4-H club The Crediton 4-H club held their first meeting at Heather Bowers. This club is Ready Get Set Sew. The girls are to make a vest and skirt. The list of officers for club one is president Kim Galloway, vice-president Deb Galloway, secretary - rotating, telephone girl Leanne Stewart, press reporter Ruth Anne Martin. Granton ladies, youths hear about drug abuse By MRS. E. SUMMERS GR AN TON The second meeting of the Granton 4-H Club "Which came first the chicken or the egg?" was held at the home of leader Mrs. Eric Chovancek on Feb. 5. Nine members answered the roll call by naming a chicken bone. A name for the club was discussed, but no decision was made. The leaders divided the girls into two groups, with Julie McRobert, Joanne Goos, and Michele Malcolm, making chicken stock, and Margaret McGuffin, Coleen Malcolm and Christine Jones making chicken with the Chinese Accent . Following the preparation of the food, the members read the notes for meeting two in their manuals. Julie McRobert closed with the motto, then everyone ate the chicken with the Chinese Accent for a snack, and thought it was delicious. Christine Jones was press reporter for this meeting. C.G.I.T. news Bonnie Harloff and Christine Jones were responsible for the meeting, and continued with the Mission Study on "Putting the "I" into Missions". A story relating to this was read, showing the different masks that people hide behind, and how we should look behind these "faces" to find the real person. Games were played, then everyone attended the meeting of Unit 3. which followed, to hear the speaker on drug abuse. Unit 3 meets Unit 3 was the only unit of the UCW to hold their meeting last week, owing to weather conditions. Meeting at the church on Feb. 4 following the C.G.I.T. meeting, Mrs. Eric Chorancek presided over a short business meeting, there was some discussion on some future catering, and plans were made to take the husbands bowling later this month. Program conveners were Mrs. Elwyn Bryan and Mrs. Fred Cook. Mrs. Bryan read a letter written by Art Linkletter on the tragic death of hisdaughtercaused by drugs. Mrs. Cook read a story dealing with the same subject, concluding with a poem. The guest speaker was Bruce Cowan, Chief of Police for St. Marys. He spoke on drug abuse and rehabilitation, this was illustrated with a slide presentation. The youth groups were invited to attend this meeting. Church news At the United Church the Rev. Elwood Morden con- ducted the worship. He entitled his sermon "The ways of Acceptance". This is to be the first in a series of three. Basing his message on the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, Rev. Morden described the first part, God give me the serenity to ac- cept the things I cannot change, as the best known prayer in the world, it is printed on the A.A. (Alcoholics) card and was given to servicemen when war broke out. The words are not hard to understand. (There are some things that simply cannot be changed, there are situations, that can be altered or modified. How we can distinguish the one from the other will be dealt with in this series. We can come to terms with our "Tree in the Garden of Eden", and face our problems with in- telligence. At. St. Thomas Anglican Church, Rev. Greg Smith was in charge of the morning prayer service. The first lesson was read by the Rector and Bettyanne Herbert read the second. Rev. Smith's message was directed to the children and the congregation and dealt with the good and the bad seed, describing weeds and plants and referring to how it affected their own lives.
