Friday night the Optimist team took to the ice at Thedford in the Grand Bend Optimist no body contact tournament, against a strong team from the London Oakridge area. Our lack of strength, ex- perience and breath took us down to a 6-2 defeat at the hands of our opponents. Our first goal came when Bruce Rattray scored on a pass from Robbie Lawrence, which brought the team within one goal. Oakridge scored another before Bruce Katcher connected on a pass from Bob Snell. Robbie Lawrence put a perfect pass into a net for the next goal of the game. Nobody knows why he chose our net to put it into. The game was all over for us. On Saturday afternoon we were pitted against the Watford Optimist team. We played a much better game but still ended up on the short end of the score at 9-3. Bruce Rattray, Bob Lammie and Tom Lessard were the scorers with assists going to Rick Snell, Bob Snell and Bruce Rattray. The Grand Bend Optimists can be proud of their efforts. We hope we will be invited to participate in many more of their well run functions. The local girls team is now in the playoffs. Saturday afternoon they battled back from a 4-2 deficit to score three unanswered goals in the third period and take a 5- 4 victory over the Teeswater girls. Yvonne Wells put four goals into the net with the other going to Kim Kennedy. Assisting were Kim Ken- nedy, Kim Watson, Jeanette Smith and Tracey Walden. The second game was played in Teeswater but there was no report at the time of this report. Since it is impossible for me to be at two places at once it is up to the coaches to get the game sheets in to me as soon as possible after the games, so that I can enter them into my column. The atom team spent all day Saturday in the town of Lucan. In the first game they lost a squeaker to the Zurich team by a score of two to zip. No report on the second or final game as yet. On Wednesday evening, in the village of Hensall, the Park pee wees did a number on the home town boys, 16-2 was the outcome. David Smith had four goals and three assists to lead the park scorers. Other goal getters were Bill Lessard with three, Steve McIntyre, Steve Watson and Mike McCallum each had two. Singles went to Rob Finkbiener, Steve Lightfoot and Ron Van- massenhoven. Ron Morrison, Stuart McGregor and Al Legoff inform me that the Road Rally slated for February 22 is looking good. If you plan to enter, please watch for registration time and more info in the column next week. This rally is open to anyone with a valid licence and a few hours free time but we are hoping that the majority of entrants will be the teens. We're looking for a lot of contestants and a good day. Have your youngsters picked up their entry forms for the Tri-Star Hockey competition? If not they can do so at the arena. Any boy or girl between the ages of 8 and 13 can enter. You should know how to skate and perhaps have some knowledge of how to handle a hockey stick, but not necessarily. This event is free and will be held on Sunday March 15 at the arena from 4 to 7 p.m. right after the free public skating. At the Valentines Dance, being held this coming Saturday at the hall, Mr. and Mrs. Russ Jones will be celebratingtheir3lst wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lessard will be celebrating their 18th as well. Entertainment will be Times -Advocate, February 11, 1981 Page teams at Huron Park supplied by Party Sounds. The dance gets underway at nine and the admission will be two dollars per person. It's not far to drive for those of you in the park and you can sure have a lot of fun with your friends and neigh- bors. With the roads in the Park being in such a mess this year it would be appreciated if we would keep our cars off the sides of the streets during the night.
