The Super Bowl took its toll. 1 normally rise at about 3 a. m. on Monday morning while the house is quiet and journey down to the cellar to sit at the typewriter, with a coffee. and dream up some sort of a story. There are a number of ac- tivities on the agenda for your enjoyment coming up shortly. The most important of these is the resumption of the Road Rally which was cancelled last year due to a lack of participants. This event will be held on Sunday, rem . tt. me s.. . Feb 22 starting at 1 p.m. at the Optimist hall. Anyone wishing to get into the act should It is not a race as such. You will be competing against yourself. the clock and the speedometer. The rally will not take anymore than three hours to complete if you follow directions properly. Most of us enjoy a Sunday afternoon drive. So Why not get together with your friends and neighbours and stake this date one that you can remember for a long time A Valentine's dance is to be held on Feb. 14 at the hall for all who like a little bit of fun. Also on March 14 we are holding a dance in honor of St. Patrick. Al Lavier is interested in finding young golfers wbo would like to spend some time on the links with the op- portunity of representing our club in competition with the rest of the youth in On- tario this summer. Anyone interested can contact Al at his home any evening. Last year our kids had this pleasure of playing at the Fanshawe course in London and did very well. Al is going to plan early mini tour- naments and will let us know the dates soon. The schools in the Township are holding oratorical contests in the not too distant future. The winners of these will repre- sent our club in the Ontario district competitions. It's a tough assignment for the kids to stand up in front of a crowd. but I'm sure that we will be well represented. Bike safety week and T - Ball are two more events in the planning stages. Watch for more information on thses in future editions. The club members will be doing some travelling this month. On the 6th, 7th and 8th or this week a made up hockey team is playing in the Grand Bend Optimist club hockey tournament at the Thedford arena. We plan to come back to the Park as the best of the bunch. If you want to see us play the first game for our team is at 11 p.m. On February 14 at the Waterloo Motor Inn the On- tario District Quarter Board is to be held. Our club will be represented. We are looking for a large number of our members to attend an inter- club meeting with the Clin- ton Optimists on the 19th of this month. For more into contact Bill McGrath. Let's have a good showing. The Huron Park bantams played an excellent game on Saturday against a stubborn team from Elma-Logan and came out of it on short side. Jeff Galloway combined with Mike Moffatt to score our only goal in the 5 - 1 Loss. A total of 38 penalties were called in the contest. We should have had the game in the penalty box. There were more players there than on the ice. The Stephen Optimist will hold a Tri-Star Hockey skills contest at the Stephen Arena on March 15. The contest is composed of three basic skill tests. each aimed at ev- aluating a contestants skill in skating. shooting and stick handling. There will be trophies awarded to the first three winners in each age group. Every contestant will .also receive a memento scorecard. Entry blanks are available at the arena or from your school or at the arena on the day of competition, March 15 from 4:00 to 7:00. Remember, you always win of you lose with a smile. IRVIN RADER The canvass for the Dashwood and area Medical centre in the villages of Dashwood and Crediton has been very successful and en- couraging. Anyone who has been mis- sed. please contact the treasurer at 237-3597 or the secretary at 237-3606. All donations large or small are gratefully appreciated. The Dashwood men's club are organizing a canvass in the surrounding area and hope to start this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Love visited in Sarnia last week with Mr. and Mrs. Clare Love and family. Don and Dan Love. King City, were also guests as Dan was tak- ing part in a hockey tourna- ment as a member of the Aurora hockey team. Missionary league The Lutheran Women's Missionary League meeting was held Tuesday, Jan. 27. They met with members of the voter's meeting and shared the film "Forward in Remembrance". Following this they held their meeting opening with prayer and the LWML song. Zone prayer service will be March 1st as Logan Lutheran church with the theme "Share His Love". Ten ladies were pre- sent. Zehr's tapes and used postage stamps are still needed. Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Louis Weigand were surprised on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary at the home of their son Bill and Doris Weigand. Zion church youth The Youth of Zion Lutheran church held the meeting January 25 opening with a prayer by Lori Anne Boogemans. Elise Vandeworp showed the progress on the annual reports. They are planning a sled- ding party with Goderich Youth. Plans are being made for the hosting of the Circuit Spring Rally Lisa Miller provided refreshments. Personals The annual town meeting will be held Monday, Feb.9,' at 8 p.m. at the community centre. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader were supper guests in Lon- don with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rader, Ben and Robin, Thursday. Everett Haist is able to be out after a stay at South Huron Hospital. Dashwood men's club held their monthly dinner meeting Monday, January 25th. Following the dinner, accompanied by friends, they went by bus to Labatt's, London. Mrs. Flossie Willert has , returned home from South Huron hospital, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kraft, Ipperwash, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader. Mrs. Hilda Wein accom- panied by her daughter Mrs. A. C. Whittier, Mississauga, spent the weekend at her home here. Erma Wein, Clinton. was also home. Congratulations to Joan Finkbeiner who was a con- testant, Saturday evening, on the popular 'Bowling for dollars" program on Kitchener TV. She had two strikes and the third ball took down the cente pin. Joan's on camera guests were her parents, Harold an Doreen Finkbeiner and Sherrie Stade and Vickie Clark. The show had previously ,been taped on December 6. Photo by Norm Hyde Enjoy euchre at Crediton By MRS. PETER MARTIN CREDITON Wednesday evening. 12 tables of euchre were en- joyed by area residents. The Crediton Womens Institutes first euchre was well at- tended at the Crediton town hall. Winners for the evening were: Ladies High, Jean Walper; Low, Mrs. Neeb; Lone hands, Aldeen Wolfe. Mens high, Charlie Rawlings; low, Mrs. Charlie Fisher; Lone hands, Gloria Martin, playing a mans card. A lucky cup prize was won by Martha Pfaff. A snecial mention was given to Mrs. and Mrs. Aaron Restemayer, Dash- wood who were celebrating their 50th anniversary that evening. The next euchlre will be held February 10 in the hall with play commencing at 8:15. Personals Mrs. Oscar Pfaff is recovering from surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Hodgins, Scott and Dennis enjoyed the Canada farm show January 29 held in the Coliseum Complex, Exhibition place, Toronto. While there they 1 watched the tractor and truck pull. Today, Groundhog day, the old fellow peaked out from his hole and retreated swiftly back in, meaning six more weeks of this white stuff for us to contend with. They enjoyed a family birthday supper Friday evening when Arnold and his daughter Audrey celebrated birthdays the same day, and Arnold's great grandson Brent Gibson was four years old on Jan 29. HUGH MORINZ SHIPKA Michelle and Bill Morena, of Goderich were hosts Sun- day, for a family dinner field at the Pineridge Chalet in honor of Bill's parents, Hugh and Annie Morenz on the oc- casion of their 40th wedding anniversary. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Les Adams, of Exeter, Mr. and Mrs. John Corbett of Hensall, Mrs. Blanche Chapman of London, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morenz, Grand Bend, Mr. and Mrs. Art Finlayson of Seaforth, Mr. and Mrs. Bill' Coleman of Kippen-and Mr. and Mrs.Roy Boerner, of Mio Michigan. Ma'ry Finlayson, the bridesmaid, and Roy Morenz the best man, their atten- dants of 40 years ago were special guests. A social time was enjoyed after the noon meal, of visiting and picture taking. Special greetings came to Morenz Srs. from grand- daughter Peri, in Coquitlam, B.C. friends in Nottingham England and cousins in Michigan.
