Orpha club meets
Fourteen members of the
Orpha Club met at Marjorie
Mason's home on Monday
afternoon. Preceding the
meeting a social half hour
and cup of tea was served by
the hostess and Mildred
MacLaren.
President. Irene Kennedy,
opened with a reading on
'This God forsaken land",
about land in the state of
11'voming
The minutes of the last
meeting were read by Aileen
Ravetle and a treasurer's
report given.
A thank you was read from
Lambton County Childrens
Aid for their Christmas
donation. It was decided to
buv flannelette to make ar-
t ieles for the Easter shower.
Verses were read for
January birthdays and Irene
closed the meeting with
prayer. Next meeting will be
held March 2nd at Alma
Prance's home.

Fern's on camera guests
were her son and wife Gerry
and Brenda Love and their
three children, Paul.,

Alex and Clara Hamilton
were supper guests. Sunday
evening with Lawrence and
Minnie Curts.

at quilting bees.

Total damages were
> estimated at $2300 in a two
car crash in Pinery Park
Friday. Drivers of the cars
were Margaret Purdy of RR
2 Forest, and Douglas
Menzies 'of RR 2, Grand
Bend. Injuries were minor.
Constable R.L. Hodge in-
vestigated.
During the week of
January 25 to 31, provincial
police at Pinery Park laid 10
charges under the liquor
licence act. Four charges
were laid under the
motorized snow vehicle act,
and three thefts were
reported.
Two charges were laid
under the highway traffic
act. and one person was
charged for impaired
driving. Ten other
miscellaneous occurrences
were investigated.

with Mrs. Cleave. wife of the
late Rev. W.T. Cleave,
(pastor at the United Church
from 1942-47) at the Vision
Nursing home in Sarnia, on
the occasion of Mrs.
Cleave's 100th birthday.
Sons Jack and Frank were
with her on this special day.
Her son Bill was sick in
Florida. unable to come.
Mrs. Cleave is quite mobile
and enjoys good health. All
enjoyed birthday cake ice
cream. tea or coffee.
The visiting Grand Bend
ladies also stopped in
Brigden at the grocery store
operated by Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin Warner, former Grand
Bend residents.
Thirty-one were in atten-
dance at the non-
denominational Bible coffee
hour held last Thursday
morning at Mrs. Vera
Brown's home in Southcott
Pines. Study time this week
on February 5th will be
"Coping with broken
relationships", and will
again be held at Mrs.
Brown's home at 9:30 a.m.
Everyone welcome.
The Grand Bend Golden
Agers meeting scheduled for
this afternoon February 4th,
has been postponed, and will
be held February 11th at 1:30
p.m at the Parish hall.
Church of God news
More than 30 from Church of
God enjoyed a family night
of bowling Saturday, at
Zurich bowling alleys.
Anglican churcn news
The morning service at St.
John's Anglican Church was
cancelled due to the incle-
rilent weather.
The ladies group of St.
John's will hold their
February meeting Thursday
afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the
Parish hall, February 5th.
St. John's church will hold
a joint service. next Sunday
February 8, at rrivitt
Anglican church in Exeter,
when guest speaker will be
Dr. Douglas Fox, of Huron
College. London.
United Church news
Rev. H. Moore spoke on
the third series of Faith is...
Faith in the highest, at the
Sunday morning service at
Grand Bend United church.
Scripture readings were
from twelfth chapter of
Hebrews. verses one to
eleven. and Chapter four of
Mark, verses 35 - 41.
The Senior Sunday School
students joined the con-
gregation for the first part of
the service.
There were two baptisims
this morning, children of
Frank and Linda Voogel,
Bradley Theodore and Chad
Jonathon.
There was a good
representation of members
present from Greenway and
Grand Bend at the Official
Board meeting held last
Tuesday evening at Grand
Bend United church.
The allocation, for Mission
and Service recommended
for 19$1, was accepted.
The new requirements for
the manse that Presbytery
are requesting begins in
1981.
Mrs. Irene Kennedy was
appointed as a delegate to
attend conference, at
Chatham, in May.
Don Kobe extended a vote
of thanks tb Rev. and Mrs.
Moore for their untiring ef-
forts in the pastoral charge.

Win volleyball
Grand Bend Public School,
with its mixed volleyball
team, took the top award in
the North East Lambton
Elementary School. com-
petition held recently at
Woodside School in Forest.
The four ar4a schools
taking part in the event,
Grand Bend, Woodside,
Kinnaird and Bosanquet
each sent two representative
squads whose points were
combined to determine the
tournament outcome. In all,
a total of 24 games were
played.
Grand Bend topped the
competition by acquiring 40
points.

The highlight of the tour-
nament weekend will be a
dance Saturday night at the
arena. Music will be
provided by a disc jockey.

Then on Sunday, February
15, the Optimists are ex-
pecting more than 500 cross
country ski enthusiasts to
come to their loppet at
Pinery Park. More than 100
are already registered.
Races will commence at
10:30 a.m., and a Poker Tour
will be held at 1:00 p.m.
Different racing events
will be held for men, ladies
and kids, and there will be
a choiceof 10 or six kilometre
trails. There will also be
different categories in the
poker tours.
The entry fee is $3.00 for
those 17 and over, $1.00 for
those 16 and under.

Loppet are available at the
Park.
