Church news
At the United Church, the
Rev. Elwood Morden con-
ducted the morning worship
and chaired the annual
congregational meeting on
February 1.
Continuing with the last of
a series on Worship, the
minister entitled his sermon
"Reminders in Worship".
We are reminded that God
cares. We must all suffer
thewounds of bereavement,
tragedies, and difficulties
that we experience .
Here are some reminders
to help us as we come to
church. (1) The Cross, as
we see the Cross we
remember Jesus and the
Sacrifice he made for us.
(2) The Baptismal Font, we
are reminded that it was
here our parents pledged to
bring us up with a Faith in
God. (3) The Communion
Table, this will remind you
that the Spirit of God comes
to us through the Com-
munion Elements. (4) The
Bible. Look at the Holy Bible
and remember the stories of
the people in it. (5) The
Pulpit, this is a reminder
that God speaks to us
through the Pulpit.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church, the Rev. Greg Smith
was in charge of the morning
prayer service. The first
Lesson was read by Miss
Marion Herbert, and Jim
Hodgins read the second.
Rev. Smith took his sermon
from the Gospel of the day,
which was on the Presen-
tation of our Lord Jesus
Christ in the Temple, saying
"Here is the Light that has
showed the way for all
mankind, and is the
everlasting hope for the
World, said the Rector.
At Granton Community
Bible _Church, Pastor Glen
Fretz entitled his message
You can't get to Heaven in a
Hot Air Balloon. Using John
2: 3-6 as his text, Mr. Fretz
said that the calm assurance
of the believer is often
viewed as nothing more than
religious arrogant
presumption.
Balloon found
at Dashwood
A balloon believed to have
been released from a
Michigan school was found
this week on a Dashwood
area farm.
The balloon was found by
Karen Walper on the farm of
her parents Mr. and Mrs.
Willis Walper on Concession
14 of Hay township.
Attached to the balloon
was a card which read
"America is great.' From
Amelia at Lincoln school.
It is believed the balloon
was released in celebrations
when the U.S. hostages were
freed in Iran.
Others will sit up'and take
notice of you if you will sit up
and take notice of what
makes them sit up and take
notice.
