Ltd. 235-1281 Going after taxes On the recommendation of the general government committee, Exeter council will notify all property owners who are three years in arrears of taxes that the town will be taking action under the Tax Registration procedure. This applies to vacant land which is only two years in arrears. Owners of properties that generate income will be ad- vised that their arrears may be collected by having the tenants pay the rents to the town and then applying that revenue to the taxes owing. It has also been recommended that business tax arrears will be billed in January and those not paid by the end of the month will be sent to Small Claims Court for collection. The committee suggested that an increaseinthe fidelity bond coverage be deferred until the annual insurance review is staged. The ministry of intergovernmen- tal affairs has recommended municipalities increase. their coverage in this regard in view of a situation in a nearby community where an employee made off with a large sum of public money. A recommendation to write off a list of sewer sur- charge accounts that the PUC termed uncollectible was also approved. There were 22 accounts with a total vaue of $308.72.
